Premier League Thread 2019/20

Burnley deserve to lead (for the Eric Dyer chant as much as anything) and I’m pretty chuffed with that, but how the hell was that not ruled out for a handball in the build up? -
As soon as he kicked that ball from the half way line I was straight up off my seat in the Kop - berating Joey for yet another aimless long ball over the top.
-
Looking at the Burnley forum they want £40m for Taylor!
-
The thing with VAR is for much of it you’re at the mercy of the camera angles available. Fully believe Nacho man that he didn’t handle it and one angle backs it up. If you’re looking for reasons to disallow something you’re quite likely to find at least one angle that supports that theory.

Man City Post match thread

Man City knew we would be tougher hence why Fernandinho, Aguero and Sterling started against us. -
Got back today from my first time in Amsterdam but basically just went in bars and cafes as didn’t really have much time for museums. The sex museum was about the only one we went in but for 12 euro for something you’re only in for about 20 mins, not really worth it. First time had weed and cake for decades too. Cake we got really didn’t do much despite the guy who sold it to us giving us a health warning. Guess that’s how touristy we looked! Loads of really nice bars even in and around the seedier parts. A large beer was about six euros everywhere we went. Will definitely go again, especially when the weather’s better.

At one point (early noughties) didn’t they get rid of the bugler for an over the tannoy version, so the bugler sat in the West Stand and played it himself every game just before the teams came out until he was brought back? -

Is this aimed at the Asian community? Obviously you’ve got the Leicestershire League which should be a more reliable gauge of talent. I’ve played against some players in all Asian teams way, way down in the lower divisions that were incredibly good but would rather play with family and friends on a Saturday on park pitches. Do think that’s an area the county are missing out on (and probably City too for that matter, though at least there’s Choudhury). Even Azad was only picked up through the Uni system. -
Man City banned from Europe !

Might be wrong, but think they can appeal to have it suspended, but remember reading they had to do it quite quickly, like within a fortnight. -

Their owners are used to throwing money at things and it going away. Imagine how many things they’d paid off in their own country. That’s how they will play this too. Think one of the leaked emails from Man City said they would rather pay 50 lawyers than pay any UEFA fine. -

Bergwijn looks annoyingly decent. -

The Times had a two page spread about the race for the Champions League on Friday, including all the fixture of the teams in contention... ...didn’t include us at all and that was before the Man City ban news had broken. I wish I was that confident! -

I’m delighted in the end. Take a point all day long even before the red. Ricardo was the best player on the pitch by some distance. What a player. Hamza was unlucky with the second and don’t think the first is even a foul. He wins the ball and actually gets his leg stood on. For the most part Chilwell did well too. Oh, and thankfully Wolves’ finishing was terrible. -
That was a great challenge by Hamza. Even had his leg stood on.
-
Still can’t over losing so many headers so easily for the ‘goal’. Hamza’s done some good stuff but to not even challenge for the header at the back stick is criminal. Not much any keeper can do if all the defenders are losing 50/50s. We’re too predictable going forward too. Wolves seem to have about four men on Vardy when he’s got his back to goal because they know that’s where are attacks are going. There needs to be more variation such as early balls over the top when Vardy’s on the shoulder the threat of which would open a bit more space for him. Still in it though!
-
Wolves wanted that more. Beaten to two headers.

If it is last year’s (with Iborra) it could be we only paid 50% of Youri’s wage while he was on loan, or something similar. Would surely be on more now. -
Leicester 2-2 Chelsea Post Match

I though he was surprisingly poor Mount, though it’s also obvious he will get better as he gets older. Hadn’t twigged he’d got both assists though, even if from our point of view they’re sloppy ones to concede. -

I understand where you’re coming from, but not for the whole game. Like when I’ve seen Chelsea every time this season, they always have a spell or two where they look brilliant - but never for a full game. Did they even create a chance from open play in the second half? Certainly can’t remember Kasper making a save or a shot going narrowly wide. -

For all the fawning over Chelsea’s young players, Barnes was the best young player on the pitch for me. -
For what it’s worth, I think it would have been ruled out for Vardy being just offside.
-
That was a bizarre half of football. Occasionally (especially first 15 mins) about the worst I’ve seen but thankfully we’re not playing Liverpool. Some decent link up play up top though and can also see us scoring. Might have been a game for Iheanacho rather than Vardy to start at the moment. Evans also superb at the back. Given Abraham and Pedro are throwing themselves around every time someone comes near them I can see them getting a dodgy penalty though.
-
It makes a lot of sense for us. The only slight problem is that if he has to play due to injuries but doesn’t do very well, what happens when you come to the obligation limit where you have to buy him for £5mil if you play? Surely you wouldn’t use him and have to pay the money, which kind of contradicts signing as a back up. Do realise £5mil for a centre back who was a first team regular in getting their club into Europe last season is a decent price anyway though.
