Classic Oldies Forever · Follow HE WROTE IT TO HEAL, BUT THE WORLD DANCED TO HIS HEARTBREAK. In 1960, Phil Everly watched his romance crumble. He poured that raw, unfiltered ache into the iconic track, "Cathy’s Clown." With its unforgettable, marching drumbeat and those chilling, intertwining harmonies, The Everly Brothers didn’t just sing a simple breakup anthem. They built a towering monument to wounded pride. The true genius lay in the striking contrast. The upbeat, almost defiant melody brilliantly masked a profoundly bruised ego. Millions bought the record, humming along to a man publicly confessing his humiliation. It remains a masterclass in turning personal devastation into universal gold. We all wear the painted smile of a clown sometimes, pretending the tears aren’t real. True heartbreak never sounded so beautifully triumphant. Enjoy the music now! https://oldschool-countryradio.online/the-everly.../ Classic Oldies Forever · Follow THEY HID THEIR TEARS IN THE POURING RAIN. The Everly Brothers knew exactly how a broken heart feels when they recorded "Crying in the Rain" in 1962. It wasn't just a song about losing love; it was about the heavy burden of pride. You wander out into a storm because the sky can weep when you refuse to let the world see you break. Don and Phil’s flawless, soaring harmonies masked a deep, underlying sorrow that spoke directly to lonely souls. They painted a vivid picture of a man relying on the grey clouds to wash away his secret pain. It’s a quiet masterpiece of vulnerability disguised by the weather. Some grief is so profound that only a tempest can carry it away. Enjoy the music now! https://oldschool-countryradio.online/the-everly.../ Back in the Beat · Follow THE QUIET VOICE BEHIND THE HARMONY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING In 1982, Phil Everly sat calmly in a Dutch interview, speaking with a humility that almost hid the weight of his legacy. He called himself “the harmony voice,” the higher part behind his brother Don Everly — as if that role were something small. But that harmony was everything. From the hills of Kentucky to early radio shows as children, the brothers built a sound rooted in country tradition, then carried it into rock ’n’ roll. While Don led the verses, Phil watched closely, listening, timing his entrance with precision. That quiet discipline became their signature — two voices blending so perfectly it felt like one soul split in two. What makes this moment unforgettable is not just the music, but the honesty. Phil admits he sometimes wonders how he ever reached those high notes. He smiles, almost surprised by his own past. Yet those notes went on to shape artists like The Beatles and countless others. He may have stood in the background. But without Phil Everly, the sound of a generation would have been incomplete. Curtin Radio · Follow Born in New Delhi, India on 29th March 1940, Eden Kane is the stage name of Richard Graham Sarstedt, an English pop singer best known as a former teen idol in the 1960s. He has also recorded under his birth name and with his backing group the Downbeats. He is the older brother of musicians Peter Sarstedt and Clive Sarstedt, with whom he has collaborated on numerous Sarstedt Brothers albums. He had success in the early 1960s as a pop star appealing to a teenage audience with hits including "Well I Ask You" which was a UK No.1 hit in 1961, then spent time in Australia before moving to the United States, where he began an acting career. He entered a talent contest at the Classic Cinema in Kings Road, Chelsea, where he won a contract to sing an advertising jingle for Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate, which was played frequently on Radio Luxembourg. He was signed by management team Philip Waddilove and Michael Barclay, who changed Sarstedt's name to Eden Kane. "Eden" because of its biblical associations at a time when Adam Faith was a top pop star, and "Kane" because Citizen Kane was Barclay's favourite film. He then won a recording contract with Decca Records, and his first recording for the label, "Well I Ask You", written by Les Vandyke, arranged by John Keating, and produced by Bunny Lewis, reached no.1 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1961. It was followed by three more top ten hits in the UK over the next year, "Get Lost" (No.10), "Forget Me Not" (No.3) and "I Don't Know Why" (No.7). Together with a backing band, the Downbeats, who comprised Roger Retting, Ben Steed, Roger St. Clair and Bugs Waddell, he toured widely around the UK with such stars as Cliff Richard, Billy Fury and Helen Shapiro. His brother Peter was the band's road manager, later joining on bass, with brother Clive joining on guitar. He made several television appearances on shows with newly successful groups such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and toured Australia with Roy Orbison, Del Shannon and the Searchers. Success in Australia led to him hosting a TV series in the country. At a stopover in Los Angeles he met American journalist Charlene Groman, sister of Stefanie Powers, and they married several years later. Eden Kane has since recorded for Bell, Monarch, HMV and Festival (the last two being Australian releases). He has also occasionally joined "oldies" tours in the UK with Marty Wilde, John Leyton, Brian Hyland and others, notably as part of the "Solid Gold Rock and Roll" package. He was a contract actor on the Star Trek team and made several appearances in the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager under his real name Richard Sarstedt. As of 2014, he has a CD, entitled Y2Kane, available on his website. He continues to live in Los Angeles with his wife, the journalist Charlene Groman, and their family. In 2017 Eden Kane went on a UK tour with The Solid Gold Rock'n'Roll Show which also featured Marty Wilde, Mark Wynter and Mike Berry.

A couple of very crude, disrespectful and sexist ones in the style of Get you tits out for the lads You don't look at the mantle piece whilst stoking the fire. A favourite of one of my younger team when working - "it was like a sausage up Charles St"- I'll leave you to work out what he meant. -
It's a lack of intelligence because they don't seem to understand that the better they and the team perform the better it is for their career.

Aye it was a bad time I had a mortgage and 3 kiddies under the age of 10 in 1979 when inflation hit 17% under Thatcher.

City of Leicester & Leicestershire - The Good and Historical Stuff

Leicester Memories Nigel Tout · These two photographs are from the same spot on Soar Lane in Leicester, at the back of the Great Central Railway viaduct. The black & white photograph is from 1965, taken with a standard lens, and shows the railway lifting bridge, designed by Robert Stephenson, over the canal which is now at the Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre. The colour photograph is the same view taken 2 weeks ago and is with a very wide angle lens and shows the newly built dwellings. Remaining in the canal is the guard to protect the part of the bridge structure which did not raise and guide boats through the raised opening. More information about the now much travelled lifting bridge is at http://www.nigeltout.com/.../the-stephenson-lifting... -

Leicester City title-winners offer to help relegation fight but ace says nobody's made contact Story by Leigh Curtis Marc Albrighton says Leicester City's title-winning heroes would help the club in their fight against relegation - but says nobody has been in contact. The Foxes are striving to climb out of the Championship relegation zone under new boss Gary Rowett and face a nerve-wracking end to the season as they aim to beat the drop. After posting £71m in losses for the last financial year, rumours are already emerging that some talent could be moved on in the summer as a result. It's been a hard season on and off the pitch for the Foxes and Albrighton says the Premier League winning team of 2016 is willing to help in any way they can. But in an interview with the Daily Mail, he says nobody has yet picked up the phone. "We all say that if we could have a job at any of our former clubs, we’d choose Leicester," Albrighton said. "We didn’t all grow up supporting Leicester but we are massive fans now and we just want to help as much as possible. For whatever reason, it hasn’t materialised. "I’m not saying we’d go in and change the world, change everything that’s wrong with the club. "But people talk about Manchester United and former players at the club who know their DNA, and I feel like there’s something similar at Leicester. There was a culture there that I’d never seen anywhere else." Albrighton was in the stands to watch Leicester's defeat to Southampton when the Foxes incredibly surrendered a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3. And he added: "I felt there was massive fear both on the pitch and in the crowd. "When they were 3-0 up, I wanted them to enjoy themselves. I know it’s difficult and these are nervous times but I’ve noticed it in a quite a few games. The word 'fearless' is part of the club’s identity and it’s important not to forget that."
