The problem is the club think both are decisions/plans that exist in a vacuum from one another - but they don’t. the decision to sack a manager is only as good as the replacement and the process of appointing them. sacking Cooper is a terrible decision if you appoint RVN and he’s even worse. sacking Cifuentes is a terrible decision if you do it at a crucial part of the season, have no one identified or lined up and take 3+ weeks to appoint a replacement

If we do stay up, I think the most likely scenario is staying up by 1 point or GD, due to Blackburn/Portsmouth/West Brom being worse than us.

Results in return fixtures of remaining games: 18 points - exactly what we need to finish on 50... But yeah agree with your concerns. Especially since 10 of those 18 points we gained in the reverse fixtures, appear very hard to replicate now.

STATS DUMP Points for finishing 21st in the Championship, based on the last 21 seasons: Low 41 Average 48.2 High 55 Based on PPG to date, I'd be surprised if more than 49 points is required to stay up this season. SEASON LONG PPG We can see that on season long PPG to date, there's only 1.4 points separating West Brom, Leicester and Blackburn. And Portsmouth's 3 games in hand continue to be an annoying wrinkle. RECENT FORM PPG AND EXTRAPOLATIONS Looking at shorter term form doesn't make for good reading and of course Last 10 form gets closer to replicating the 14 game run we have remaining. Both have us in the relegation zone, but again, only 0.7 points separating West Brom, Leicester and Blackburn. (Portsmouth would be on 47.4 points if they lose their 3 games in hand). So could be 3-4 teams in the mix Too close to call, especially with such much football to play. We've got to win 4-6 games. One hope would be Oxford and Blackburn continue to struggle. Away from the stats themselves, we've obviously got the 'eye test' of Leicester not having any grit and it feels like 3-4 years since we won a crutch match with something significant riding on it - so the prospect of needing a win at Blackburn Away on the final day is terrifying. Right now I don't want or need a manager who is going to fix anything or rebuild us. We need a manager who, in 14 games, can keep us up and avoid the potential financial oblivion of League One.

Because to them it's a business, an asset, a commodity? To us, it's part of our community and personal local heritage? We've been here before KP and we'll be here after they've gone.

To be fair, it's much easier to attract and appoint someone when your clubs isn't in complete shambles. Our slowness to appoint is as much about our current situation as it is the incompetencies of those involved (which I know itself is a terrible indictment of their stewardship).

I don't. The question was 'why wouldn't he come here' and I'm theorising on possible reasons why.

Because he thinks he's above a relegation scrap at the bottom of the Championship Because he's still owed money from Forest and doesn't want to miss out He's only just been sacked in the PL and wants a break He doesn't want a short term deal He doesn't want a likely relegation on his CV The post is generally more trouble than it's worth

I think this is what my summary says?

I've been reading up on the spending rules for League One League One (& Two) doesn't have PSR - it has "Salary Cost Management Protocol" "the percentage of a Club’s turnover that can be spent on player-related expenditure. In League One this is set at 60%" For former Championship Clubs – this is set at 75% for its first Season in League One only Player-related expenditure is transfer fees, agents fees, wages, bonuses and any other player-related payments and costs. Clubs have to provide a pre-season submission and a mid-season submission by 1st Dec There's also restrictions on 'equity injections': cash receipts from Equity Injections, Cash Injections and/or Donations - you can only use a certain percentage as 'allowable income' You can use 100% of the first £500,000; 75% of the next £250,000; 60% of the next £250,000 and 60% of anything else So for example, Top wants to inject £10,000,000 into the club, we can only count £6,237,500 of it as allowable income. The headline/easiest summary of the requirement is: Player costs and agent fees minus ‘non-established’ U21 player costs cannot exceed the total of: Player trading income ‘Allowable’ Equity injection income 75% of turnover Hard to tell if this will restrict us more or less than PSR. But also note that we'd also have to be ready to comply with PSR upon promotion back to the Championship.

Still quite a lot of big earners beyond the end of this season.

Wondering why there isn't more general football media reporting on the fact that we're on the precipice of relegation to League One? Is it just because it's 'only' February?

You wouldn't swap with Brentford? Bournemouth? Villa? Brighton? Fulham? Palace? There's plenty of sensibly ran clubs around. Why do you have such strong loyalty towards the current ownership?
