Realistic Managerial Replacements
funkyrobot replied to winteriscoming's topic in Leicester City Forum
Neither ideal options, both sacked regularly. It’s not bizarre though as both play totally different styles of football with Rowett renowned for pragmatism that isn’t particularly successful. If I was forced to choose between the two I’d definitely go for Mowbray. More experience, plays much better football (his Sunderland were excellent against us despite unluckily losing at the KP when we had Enzo) and he’s not just been sacked by Oxford United!! -

I’d appoint John ‘Bring Yer Dinner’ Sillet based on this classic changing room rant at Orient -

So what’s happened this season then? Bottom but one and sacked. And the new manager has completely turned them around. Oxford rejects should be rebuilding their careers at league 2. What happened to Rowett at Stoke, at Birmingham at Millwall? Sacked and doesn’t even play good football whilst he’s failing. -

Both have poor records and should be avoided -

Rowett at Number 3. Just sacked by 2nd from bottom Oxford United who’ve seen a massive improvement in performance since he left and yet he’s your 3rd choice? -

I thought he was excellent with England. Played great football and lost once. -

I have, not sure you have as his name is mentioned. There’s been chat about bring Rowett in on here, hence my comment. If you go on Twitter there’s even more too. Rowett would be a terrible appointment. -

I can’t believe people are thinking Rowett- sacked by OXFORD Rowett - is actually a good idea. Wow. -
JJ did well but by far the best ex LCFC player in that game was KDH. We miss his energy and his ability so much. 😢

Would you take Pearson til the end of the season?

If Faes was still here Nige could also recreate the Matt Mills incident in his office too. Instead Winksy will also have to have that honour (as well as the iconic throttle) if NFP arrives with his godly big white box fresh trainers to save the day. -
On to our 4th manager in 18 months. This embarrassing number confirms that the problem lies with the decision makers above manager level. Cifuentes wasn’t up to the job. Seemed like a nice guy but wasn’t able to motivate players and was ‘out tacticked’ by opposition managers most weeks. That being said, his late appointment, the lack of support for him in both windows and the embarrassing behaviour of players he’s should’ve been able to rely on like Winks means I have some sympathy for him. With the state of the senior management team and the state of the senior playing squad, only a manager with the presence and gravitas of someone like a modern day Nigel Pearson and his team could make any kind of positive progress with the club.

Yeh, Marti’s double pivot means Mavididi doesn’t have a left sided 8 to work with. He was at his best when he had quality inside him in KDH. With a 10 who tends to stick centrally there’s less connection. On top of that our only 10, BDCR is a moments player who is anonymous for the majority of games. Fatawu has a similar problem on the right without the right sided 8 he had with Ndidi. Cifuentes’ preference for a double pivot hasn’t made us more secure defensively and isolates both wingers.

Matty gets it and he’s very honest like Pipes but he’s not the easiest pundit to listen to. Repeats himself, talks in riddles, misses out words and doesn’t stop for a breath!
-
It’s almost like because his passing is so bad it’s assumed his defending is good but it just isn’t. He looks every bit the lower Championship, League 1 player that he’s becoming.

This thread needed bumping because Okoli’s poor performances seemed to have gone under the radar here. He’s been bullied today against Oxford, against Wrexham during the week and against Coventry last Saturday. His ragged disorganised defending and terrible passing for a player that cost relatively significant funds is a big problem.
-
Verstergaard’s faults are well known and well discussed on here but tbh I’m more concerned with Okoli who can’t pass and whose alleged strong defensive abilities have not been witnessed recently. He’s had a week of being absolutely bullied and outfought at Coventry, at Wrexham and now at home to Oxford.

I thought Page was one of our better players today. Took responsibility, tried to be positive with the ball and move into space. Hamza was walking around the pitch offering very little in the way of anything other than simple wall passes and had to be carried by Page. Reid was his usual anonymous lightweight self.

Hamza is a non entity in central midfield. Doesn’t run, doesn’t scan before receiving the ball so can’t play on the half turn. Offers nothing. Carried by 17 year old Page. -
It’s going to be Hamza and Bouba 😬

I’ve been thinking about going to watch a LCFC ladies match again. Haven’t thought about going since I went to watch them play Villa a few years ago 👀😉

Just read that ManUre youngster Harry Amass, a left back, has ended his loan at Sheffield Wednesday and is now expecting to go on loan to Norwich City for the rest of the season. We should be looking at players like him. Literally any available Championship experienced left back still playing at that level is a better option than Thomas.
-
Daka can’t pass, control the ball, header the ball and has 50p boots. If he gets any touch he stays down for at least 2 minutes even if we are in possession and lies there until the ref stops the game even if it’s eating up time that we need to get back in a game. Despite his flaws. Ayew is the better option. That’s not meant as a compliment to Ayew by the way.
-
Looks the real deal. I think Page has come on loads since his first start against Charlton early this season. Still find it strange that as a club we’ve loaned out the older aged reserve players like Braybrooke and Alves and then rely on 16/17 year olds to cover for the inevitable injuries/loss of form within the senior squad.

Nelson did ok and he’s definitely not useless.

Wrexham 1-1 LCFC, post-match thread
funkyrobot replied to ClaphamFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Appleton on BBC’s When Your Smiling said right footed Nelson struggled and Thomas needs to come back in to the team and that maybe he was dropped too quickly. Earlier on he admitted to not seeing much of LCFC this season. Clearly he doesn’t realise that Nelson’s performance, whilst not perfect, was much better than watching Luke Thomas be picked apart by every attacker on the left hand side every game.
