Definitely and this is something we’re already seeing with a lot of the players, improvement in their overall play thanks to quality coaching. Polar opposite to the regression in most players form witnessed under Rodgers in the last couple of years.

Been a breath of fresh air and I must say I didn’t think he would make the step up like he has, fair play. Would be amazing if Braybrooke and Alves could come back and have a similar impact.

Correct and the lack of creativity is a big worry for me (centrally), plus the winger situation. If we lose Barnes then we’re left with just Albrighton, not an issue if the system we want to play doesn’t require wingers, but ideally you need that flexibility and the ability to play different ways, which of course requires a good depth of squad. Not panicking yet, but the club really needs to press on and bring a few more players in, especially with more departures likely.

And when was the last time he did ‘cut it’? Many years ago sadly. He’s had a few chances post Chelsea to revive his career but has never looked a fraction of the player who was so instrumental in our title winning season. Wish him all the best and I hope he finds a place back in football again, but it won’t be with us.

4 games into the tournament and still yet to concede, looks the business. I’d definitely take him, even if it had to be just a loan.

Some of the vitriol aimed at him is a bit weird. Overall a good player for us, some good memories, especially the cup final goal obviously. Don’t really buy the line that he downed tools, certainly a significant drop off in form, but you could say the same for the rest of the entire squad. Disappointed that he’s ended up at Villa and I’m sure he would have hoped for a bigger step up, but he’s still got a long way to go if he ever wants to reach an elite level. Sad to see him go, just thinks he deserves a little more respect than some are giving him. I do believe he cared and seems a decent bloke, all the best Youri.

But what about Villa and Wolves? Both acted early (as we should have obviously done) and recruited top class replacements. Do you think we’d be anywhere near the bottom three had we binned off Rodgers months ago and replaced him with Emery?
