The unbearable football coaching buzzword/spiel for it is “artificial transitions” (Tifo do a great YouTube video on it Strider, I know you’re a fan). The idea is you bait your opponent in far enough by continually passing or pausing on the ball, To create space to essentially do a standard counter attack into - even though you had possession of the ball in the first place. Enzo’s chum De Zerbi is a big advocate of it - I know we were having a debate in the tactics thread a few months back that Enzo is more De Zerbi than he is Pep. So there are elements of counter attacking in our play, as people were saying a few pages back, it’s not just as black or white as possession football or not.

Suppose you could also pick from most of the other 38 rotting games that got us relegated.

Difference is mate that for all of those examples this is a completely new identity of modern day football and some won’t get their head around it. Doesn’t matter how much me, you and others go into that tactics thread and wax lyrical about it. Brendan’s prime football was about as close as this club have ever got to it. I’m ecstatic we’ve got a manager with a huge emphasis on a modern day football identity. But some won’t be happy until we get to the premier league, we’ve lost more than we’ve won, Mads is gifting it once or twice to someone trying to play out for the back and then they can come out of the woodwork and say “I told you so”.

Last night became tedious and super unenjoyable for me. Not because of what happened on the pitch. Swansea were poor, and on another day we could have been three nil up at half time if we had took chances. Probably 5 or 6-1 by the end of the game. What’s to complain about that? But it became tedious and super unenjoyable because of the fans. Groans when passing it short… groans when a pass becomes missed placed going long.. sarcastic cheers when a move ends up going back to Mads.. Numerous people around me shouting forward over and over again. The worst bit is, you knew we were going to score at least 3 goals and win that game. It’s happened over and over again this year when we’ve cruised along in first gear till about the 60th minute and then the opposition tire from ball chasing for an hour and we punish them with a second and third. The moaning becomes totally futile. There was uproar when Deeney called us entitled last week, he was spot on. We’re top of the league with a ten point lead, scored the most, conceded the least. Cantering to a promotion that we were all scared wasn’t going to happen. Yet the ground is like a morgue for all of one block of the stadium, and all the fans do is moan. I sat there at full time and realised I hadn’t enjoyed the experience. So I’m not surprised that despite Enzo’s hard work to turn this absolute cluster**** completely around, he’s pretty pissed off too.

You’re spot on mate. Winks has been identified as our main threat in build up, and I think that’s why we’ve seen a drop off in how effective he was at the start of the season. I do think that’s highlighted Ricardo’s quality when he steps into midfield though - hard work shutting both of them down. Ultimately it’s not KDH’s job to drop too deep, the purpose of having Ricardo in there is to supplement the numbers we push higher up the pitch. On occasion we’ve seen the striker drop 10-15 yards to offer an out ball but that didn’t happen too much tonight. Hold up play isn’t Daka’s forte at all.

I think it was a case of Wanya following the right back man to man yesterday, and more of a tactical issue. Wanya was nowhere near strong enough to deal with it. Doyles definitely been slow getting back up to standard since the injury no doubt, but let’s not forget he was quality before it. Needs a run of games again, but I don’t think he’s gonna get it with Justin being so solid.

Yeah literally this. it’s literally as simple as inter wanting 2.5 for the privilege of getting Sensi now… they don’t care how or when that’s paid, so if we can do that by spreading costs for FFP and the guarantee of getting promoted then that makes sense for all parties. As you say including for Sensi.

Have to give Rudkin the credit on this one really if we/Enzo desperately want him now. Smart way of doing it.
