Cheers, I thought they were one of the better retailers so not unduly worried. The warranty is a Richer Sounds warranty, the paperwork only gives their in house numbers so that was my first call, I’m sure they’ll put me on the right track. No shops near to me, I live in the middle of nowhere in North Wales so hopefully they will collect it for repair.

Anyone used the warranty offered by Richer Sounds. I bought a TV for the bedroom 13 months ago, a 55" LG OLED, which has developed light bleed down one side and across the bottom, only noticeable on dark scenes but very distracting when it happens. Daughter used it for gaming over christmas and she said it was quite bad and should be covered by warranty. I got a 6 yr warranty at the time so well within the time frame. I've tried calling their warranty number but can't get through, answerphone messages only both times I tried so I just used the online form but didn't get an acknowledgement email? I'm sure they are very good but wondered how they process the repair? Do they take the TV away and leave you without or give a loan TV? I've never claimed on any warranty before so

I had friends in Rio so stayed there for a while on another trip. My mother had an apartment just south of Rio, Barra De Tijuca, so did quite a bit of driving along the coast to the south. It is beautiful in parts but the roads were very busy, even back then. There’s a ton of things to do around Rio if that’s where you’re looking to stay. @grobyfox1990 is right, the Maracana is amazing if you can get to a match. Brazil is football bonkers so get to Copacabana or Ipanema and ask to join in a game of beach football if you’re up for being embarrassed by a 12 yr old . Florianopolis is amazingly beautiful and has fantastic surf and beaches but maybe a bit far away if driving, I think it took 2 days, with overnight stop, to Rio. Crime is rife in Rio. Pickpockets, muggings and theft from cars is common. If a street kid wants money to protect your car whilst on the beach, pay him! Carnival time is a good time to go but again, there is so much more to Brazil.

Brazil is huge, any idea whereabouts or what type of visit you want? I spent a few months there years ago, bought an airline ticket which allowed 1 months flights internally as long as you didn’t backtrack. I wouldn’t go just for Rio. I preferred Manaus personally, gateway to the Amazon so you can take a boat on the tributaries, Solimoes into the Rio Negro. Lots of amazing wildlife, giant iguana, Sloth, Pink River Dolphin etc. I went to Rio, Sao Paolo, Curitiba, Salvador, Florianopolis, Manaus and more (my memory is fading) I flew into Paraguay (Asuncion) to see the Iguazu falls on the Rio Parana and on to The Pantanal in Mata Grosso. An incredible and diverse country, much more than Sugar Loaf and Copacabana.

Best time to go imo. Migratory birds mostly returned (if you’re into birdwatching), lavender fields should be coming into bloom and temperature normally high 20’s by then. Have a great time.

I was hoping someone else could help as I’ve not been for about 20 years. One of my family had a house in the Luberon and another in the Camargue so used to visit regularly. Aix is very pretty, apparently where most French people would like to retire. It’s a lot more laid back and relaxed than Marseille but I reckon you’ll only want to spend a day or two there at most. Famous for its fountains. The area around is very picturesque, typical Provence countryside, lots of vineyards, local cheeses and the like. What time of year are you going?

I didn’t mention Hamas. Some might say that Hamas only exists because of an occupying force.
-
Two of my favourite all time players 👍
-
Another difference you forgot to mention is that one of them is an occupying force and has total control over the other. More than 18000 dead, many more injured and without shelter, food, water or energy. No basic hygiene or medical facilities.

Yes, @FoxesDeb is correct. We hoomans very cleverly spent years trying to cultivate wild fruit and came up with grafting root stocks which guarantee a particular variety, including fruit, height and breadth of said tree. Wild stock normally grows much taller and can take many years to fruit. I have three wild Welsh Damson and they stand at about 30ft tall, makes it difficult to harvest. A grafted tree will fruit at around 3 years onwards and will probably only reach 10ft depending on variety.
-
In that case, you will be better off buying a sapling as it will be grafted stock. You could try taking a cutting as it will definitely grow but probably won't bear any fruit. I'd probably just go scrumping
-
Are you sure they’re not Sloes? They are the fruit of the Blackthorn which is regularly used in hedgerows whereas Damson is normally a standalone tree. I’d help myself to a cutting if blackthorn. If Damson, you’ll probably need a graft to guarantee fruit.

Thought so 😂😂

You’re right, the US situation is not comparable. It’s debatable whether Trump affected the market or it was a combination of previously high prices flattening and overproduction causing a fall in prices. Trump used it to boost popularity. The cost of building new refineries wouldn’t be covered by the new companies, it would be subsidised by the government (historical evidence here). Subsidies for fossil fuels are already astronomical. With respect, I think I’m done here, we’re obviously not going to agree. Have a good evening 👍

Can you lot stop showing pet pictures please. I stopped taking in rescues during Covid and our last dog died of old age 18 months ago. I haven’t got time to dedicate to another animal at the moment but I’m so close to just going to Dogs Trust 😬😬😬. Haven’t been without a dog since I was a kid (apart from when travelling) and it’s distressing… Edit - more pet pics please 🙏🏻
-
But it’s never happened before… do you really believe that will happen. We’ve been screwed over for years as consumers. We can’t change or adapt the refineries, cost prohibitive apparently, we’d have to build new ones which kind of defeats the purpose of cutting down on oil.
-
But where is your evidence that it will happen, not just an idea you had? You’re also missing the bit about us not being able to use that oil…
-
You actually stated that oil would be cheaper 😂. I’m pretty sure that taxes and tariffs won’t make a bit of difference, we won’t see any benefit. You could maybe put your source forward so I can see where you’re getting your information that oil will be cheaper and we would be less reliant on the open markets.
-
Do you think they’ll sell it to us cheaply because it’s kind. It’s an open market, they want cash. edit: it’s also the wrong type of oil, we can’t use it…
-
But your other arguments all fall flat. We will not benefit at all from the new licences, any profits will belong to the private companies. We will still be buying oil on the open market and susceptible to whatever price is demanded. The only solution is to rid ourselves of the dependence on oil.
-
Not true... "The private companies that own the fields are under no obligation to sell the oil and gas to UK energy suppliers. So even if we extract more fossil fuels in the UK, there’s no reason to think it would end up being used in British homes and on British roads at a price that’s any lower than the amount companies pay on global commodities markets — it’s a free market where the fossil fuels go to the highest bidder." Other nations are also under pressure to speed up their transition to renewables. As one of the richest countries in the world we should be leading not following and that in itself would put even more pressure on the nations falling behind. Oil will not disapear overnight and nor will our need for it's many uses but it's possible to force a transition more quickly by pushing green policies, subsidising renewables (as is happening with fossil fuels, a figure in the billions) and stop licencing new oil and gas fields.
-
No. We need to reduce consumption. That was an illustration of the type of oil we get from our oil fields. Most of it is not suitable for our uses. We need to reduce our need for oil.
-
In 2022 the UK extracted 38 million tonnes and consumed 54 million tonnes of oil. Crude oil is not a uniform thing is also quite useful when thinking about future UK exploitation too. For instance, much of the oil coming from the newer prospective Shetland fields like Cambo is very heavy indeed - super viscous, waxy crude which needs to be heated up in the pipes through which it’s transported. This has two consequences: first it takes quite a lot of energy to move it and second it is probably not “compatible” with UK refineries, meaning it will have to be transported elsewhere. So it will have a higher carbon footprint than the lighter crudes you find up towards Norway. https://edconway.substack.com/p/why-does-britain-export-80-of-its

I assume you think JSO are only present in the UK from your comments? Who is saying this?? Your'e having a laugh if you think it's better for us and the environment if we continue to give out NEW licences and therefore prolonging the use of fossil fuels. The cost of oil will never be cheaper (renewables are the cheapest form of energy) The transition will take much, much longer (do we have that luxury?) That pace will mean the deaths of thousands (tens? hundreds?) https://www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-why-banning-new-north-sea-oil-and-gas-is-not-a-just-stop-oil-plan/
