  1. How about faster processing. It won’t stop the numbers wanting to come here though as lots are fleeing persecution/war/famine etc. Also, I’m led to believe that the majority of the “boat” people are genuine refugees. The Rwanda scheme is a folly and I don’t believe it will ever be used long term.
  2. I think you’re confused about the aims of JSO, unless there’s something hidden in their literature I haven’t seen. They are not advocating buying oil or gas from anyone, their aim is to stop new licenses and a phased changeover to renewables. You really are targeting the wrong people. Most, if not all, are against any war.
  3. I think the requirement to have a licence is problematic, definitely needs rethinking but it’s good value for money in comparison to similar services. I think most people see it as another tax though.
  4. I don’t think even the JSO protesters want a total ban (obviously there are outliers). I just think granting new licenses will not do anything to help rid us of our dependence on fossil fuels. There are far more informed and eloquent individuals in the science and technology thread.
  5. I’m sure there are thousands who support their campaigns and methods. Meanwhile the government grant hundreds of new oil and gas licenses. I know who’s doing the right thing.
  6. Imagine the cost to the economy from continuing to use oil…

I’d go back to the luthier with feedback and he will make adjustments. I only play acoustic now but always go back to the same luthier for initial setup. I’ve messed around myself but it’s so hit and miss that I just go back to him. Good luck.
  8. Call it what it is - bullsh1t - It’s frightening that this stuff is still being touted as scientific fact…
  9. Brilliant. I was going to suggest gas valve, had a few go over the years, always at the start of a cold snap.

That old pedal, I’ve had it years 👀
  11. Is it gas?
  12. It wasn’t the “ridiculous modelling and dangerous propaganda” that killed the many elderly that lost their lives.
  13. I think you’re referring to the condensate drain. Only applies to condensing boilers but is an issue and an easy fix. Sadly, this time of year, boilers will be working at their hardest so more likely to break down so it could be anything. Without further description it’s impossible to diagnose.
  14. Exactly this ⬆️
  15. That’s what I’m told. What I saw was a different matter. Agreed that it will be a minority with major issues, just that I saw too many with minor issues. I’ve developed several properties over the years and probably gone over the top quality wise so I’m used to looking for issues. Some of the things I saw were minor, some less so but I was looking to spend 700k (in Wales) so my expectations were high.
  16. Regs are one thing, build quality is another. Wife and I, before buying the wreck we currently live in, looked extensively for a decent new build, saw some terrible examples and these were in the higher end of the market price wise. Mate is a chippy, he’s done loads of work putting things right in new builds after sale. Saw lots of cost cutting on materials and poor workmanship.
  17. Blast from my past. Saw this mob twice back in ‘78 and ‘79 (I think) Wife hates them 😂
  18. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/12/03/cop28-dr-sultan-al-jaber-united-arab-emirates-fossil-fuels/ Very concerning…
  19. I’m not sure there’s any debate tbh, surely it’s what an individual wants or requires? I never owned or wanted an iPhone until 2021 when my Samsung S10 died prematurely. I went for an iPhone 13 Pro after trying several high end phones. I already use a Mac for my photography and have an iPad Pro which I can use as a monitor and for using Adobe Lightroom mobile so the iPhone was a no brainer as it integrates perfectly using iCloud. The thing that swung it for me overall was the quality of the camera, something I use every day, several times a day. iOS doesn’t worry me as almost identical to the iPad. It was actually cheaper than the then equivalent Samsung too. I loved android for its hackability but the iPhone does everything I need and I haven’t found any reason to jailbreak it (although was mightily pleased to find a Spotify hack without jailbreaking). Horses for courses 👍
  20. Would love that
  21. There is so much potential good to come from AI, I read about the speed at which new medicines are being developed, many times faster than human researchers. So much to fear too…
  22. Your first paragraph - I have no problem with less farmed animals, even to the point of extinction for some. If they offer nothing to the ecosystem they are part of and the alternatives range from some loss of native wildlife which form an important part of the ecosystem (plus at an extreme level, possible mass extinction) then I think it’s a necessary sacrifice. Don’t forget that this will be a slow process so I’m not advocating mass slaughter of livestock. Your second paragraph - I’ve no problem with that, with the hope that it accelerates the change from meat to plant (or artificial meat). Your third paragraph - again, I’ve no problem with that. Out of interest, where do you think they fit in a functional ecosystem (apart from killing them for food)? I can think of a handful of niche uses. A short drive away from my house and there’s wild goat living in the hills, maybe wild sheep would provide the grazing necessary for some breeding birds (might have to reintroduce a predator or two). Anyway, if we didn’t either kill or exploit everything around us and didn’t assume that we as a species are more important than all other living things then the world would be a better place. I HAVE NO SCIENCE TO BACK ANYTHING HERE 😂. Just my personal thoughts.
  23. That’s rather a blanket statement 😂, I’ve been eating plant based food for years and there’s no difference in the amount of flavours, spices or textures that you can use. I don’t try and replicate meat as A. I don’t find it palatable B. It’s actually quite difficult. Notice that I’m avoiding the V word as it has negative connotations attached and it’s different to just eating a plant based diet.
  24. Now I’m definitely not an expert but… “Plimer was appointed to the boards of Roy Hill Holdings and Queensland Coal Investments by mining magnate and climate skeptic promoter Gina Rinehart on January 25, 2012. [5] As non-executive Director and Deputy Chairman of Kefi Minerals, Plimer owns over 5.4 million shares (as of January, 2016) in the mining company. [6], [7]”
  25. It's not black and white though, livestock farming would not 'switch off' overnight, it would be a gradual process. The animals you speak of (at least in the form we recognise) have been designed and bred for one thing and the sheer numbers of animals being slaughtered for consumption is astronomical. If less people consume meat, less will be bred for that purpose, and so on - these aren't wild animals, they don't exist outside farming - and there might be an opportunity for native wildlife to exist and grow in numbers without being blasted out of the sky to protect livestock. You talk as though the farmed animals would just be released into the wild?? Farming (including arable farming to feed livestock) makes a substantial impact on global climate change (can't quote figures - @leicsmac will have access to this data I would imagine) so is definitely a consideration when these conversations occur (thats without having a moral stance on the way we treat animals as a commodity in the first place!) I saw in the news yesterday that a group of people in S. Korea were out in force to protest the dog meat laws - we in the UK can't get our heads around the slaughter of 'pets' but quite readily accept the same of the 'non pets' that we eat? DISCLAIMER: Long term plant eater, no meat, fish or dairy.
