Well he couldn't say Mao.

Hillary came up with Mandela which is a decent enough go, but Churchill? Not much really going on in common there, is there? lol

Did Sanders actually say that? Baffling.

He's at an age where his marbles might be going though.

You don't really believe Donald Trump is a neo-Nazi surely?

Hell no, just the same as I don't think Cruz is inspired by a fundy Christian KKK advocate who believed in southern supremacy and Bernie is inspired by a psychopathic communist dictator.

I was just answering ridiculous hyperbole with equally ridiculous hyperbole.

Marco Rubio came back fighting in the last GOP debate!

Also, Trump's full scale attack against the Bush family. Now, GW made mistakes, but as if Jeb was going to stand there and take it?

How did he win the NH Primary? Come on America. Get the right Republican in.

Damn straight. The one that will get flattened by Hillary.

Yeah, just like Cruz couldn't say Nathan Bedford Forrest and Trump couldn't say Hitler, I guess.

Ok Huey Long then. Both spout socialist double speak.

Fair enough.

And, the last time I checked, doublespeak and telling the mob what it wants to hear were not the sole preserve of socialist politicians.

Quite right, must be a key trait for a politician.

As opposed to Trump who's never had any. Just a terrific sense for business dealings coupled with luckily having been born into a rather rich family.

Although I admit it's harder continuing where your parents have left off and taking family business to another level as opposed to wasting all your inheritance and family loans over a certain amount of time.

Out of interest what business experience does Sanders has?

Has he ever ran a company or more importantly been in charge of a budget?

trumps views might be horrible and old fashioned but at least they are his own and not of his donors. At least he says what he thinks, that is what will resonate more than the policies i think

I think as a mayor of a US city, you ought to have an eye on finances - no matter how small the State or the city may be.

Also, running a company you're used to different obstacles. Trump would have to learn to adhere to the political situation in Washington first - who'd be so brave to brief him on the real issues in the US? It's not like he could just walk into the Senate or the House of Representatives and bend legislature at his will.

Nil. Been involved in nearly all levels of county, state and national government, though, so I would have thought he has some semblance of how government funding works. Plus he's Jewish, they know how that shizzle goes down.

'Telling it how it is' doesn't excuse the said views from being horrific demagoguery. The domestic stuff is bad enough, but can you imagine the foreign policy?

Even as someone reasonably centrist, Trump quite frankly scares the shite out of me, even though I tick most of the demographic boxes that he would lend preferential treatment to.

I'm left-leaning yet still pretty middle of the road, but I would volunteer myself to colonise Mars without oxygen if Trump won.

The left wing outrage would be absolutely hilarious, for only the second time in my life I'd be queuing at opening time to buy the Guardian.

I think Clarkson holds the record at the Grauniad, eleven articles in a day expressing outrage at him, Trump would smash that to pieces if he was elected.

Behave, you are as far away from the centre as I am lol

Do we have any evidence that Trump's foreign policy would be a disaster or is this similar to the daft things people predicted when Reagan took office? Trump opposed the war in Iraq, people talk like he's some nutter who would be ringing around the World with his finger on the nuclear button.

Any evidence as well he'd give preferential treatment to certain people? Trump is going down better with minority voters than Bernie Sanders is, whose whole core seems to young privledged white people.

Hey, I'm pro-death penalty in specific cases - that's got to count for something, right?

If I was as leftie as you think I am I'd be backing Bernie wholesale - which isn't the case, mainly because I'm realistic enough to think that he can't win in November.

Regarding Trump and foreign policy:

- he has gone on record saying that he would bomb ISIS to kingdom come (obviously not a bad idea) and then take the oil in the areas they control for himself and the US through establishing US rebuilding contracts focussing on oil extraction with no mention of actually helping civilians there. Pretty much Gulf War plan mark III.

- he wants to bring back rendition and torture of terrorist suspects as well as targetting their civilian families for killing, both of which violate existing US law.

- send a vast amount of military hardware to the South China Sea in a 'show of strength'

- target the Chinese with vast amounts of tariffs and currency regulations in an attempt to smackdown their economy at the benefit of the US one.

Interestingly enough, he's a fair bit more conciliatory regarding Russia - perhaps because he and Putin are cut from the same cloth?

Now, what he's suggested there could all probably come under the broad heading of advancing his own countries interests, but surely you can see how such moves might be destabilising - particularly pissing off the Chinese?

Regarding preferential treatment, I think his generalisations regarding Muslims and Mexicans, in particular, speak for themselves. And in any case, the Republicans have not really been the party of the minority voter for a while, outside a few specific (Cuban exiles?) demographics. If that's shifting here, I've not seen any evidence of it.

Edit: Actually expanding on that last point, from a domestic point of view Trump doesn't scare me that much...but elements within the party that's backing him who would gain power if he won most certainly do - as well as the deals he will have to make with such elements to get the nomination in the first place. Social conservatism and the added religious connotations with it makes me want to throw up.

Trump has probably got the most reserved foreign policy out of all the GOP candidates and Clinton.

His anti trade measures are self defeating and likely to cause increased tension between them and the rest of the world.
