Lineker's Left Foot Posted 8 September 2005 Posted 8 September 2005 Hi guys, just want to share with you some under-rated artists. I'm into more obscure music, anything but teeny-bopper manufactured pop really and admit that possibly the three most under-rated artists are The Cure, David Sylvian and Talk Talk - all of which I think produce ground-breaking music. Also a big fan of Aphex Twin, Plaid, Autechre, Tosca - anybody else?

I love them, some of their songs send shivers down my spine. talk talk are pretty under rated, I think they produced some really good stuff that still sounds excellent now.

The Cure's legacy will be massive - I'm sure they will be an influence for generations to come. Talk Talk are very much under-rated. Like Talking Heads (coincidence!), they never had the amount of hits that matched their quality.
Nationwider Posted 8 September 2005 Posted 8 September 2005 Aphex Twin, Plaid, Autechre Aye, like a bit of that. I was listening to "Boy/Girl" by Aphex just today. Autechre are excellent too. Been consistently putting out some of the best electronica for a decade now, although I've not got much recent stuff by them. The wife has deemed them unlistenable so I have sneak the CDs out when she's not around. Oh, and Freund likes them too.
MC Prussian Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 All the tunes that are not played on the radio are underrated, whatever genre it may be.
Dunc Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 I dunno about that SwissFox - I heard some of my mates bands music and it was shite, the fact they got a gig means it was overrated. Anyway, back to the point, Ed Harcourt has to be the most underrated artist in the UK, he writes songs that piss on most of the rubbish about at the moment but he doesn't get any recognition.

The People's Hero Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 Aphex Twins and Ed Harcourt definitely. Also Hefner, Soulwax, Counting Crows, Pavement, Simple Plan.... Many more.
shen Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 Aphex Twins and Ed Harcourt definitely. Also Hefner, Soulwax, Counting Crows, Pavement, Simple Plan.... Many more. Didn't know they were known outside Belgium Indeed they are a good band, whether they're underrated or not is arguable. They're pretty big in Belgium, but I'd have a hard time trying to justify why they should be bigger...
The People's Hero Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 I like a lot of the mixing they do as well as their own stuff. I'd say they were under-rated here because a lot of people just haven't heard of them.

The People's Hero Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 Actually, I'm not sure why I included that. I think I was listening to their cover of the Turtles - Happy Together at the time. Which I love. Viva la Turtles. Both the band and the heroes in a half shell. (More of a complete shell really though wasn't it?)
john_lcfc Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 girls aloud definateley oohhhhh underated well i think bowling for soup are
rossporterlc Posted 9 September 2005 Posted 9 September 2005 inme, great rock band, don't get the credit they deserve

Quite rightly too. I probably haven't heard the most unde rated band of all time or of the current time, because otherwise they wouldn't be under rated would they?

IDM is not a mainstream music form so it is unlikely that he would sell shedloads of records, although he has sold a lot, so he is just about as rated as he possibly could be. **** genius too.
