fuchsntf Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 I was away alot at the time, but everytime I saw him play, I thought what a good buy and player, trouble was ,due to injury a player who was robbed from showing his true talent. Also at the time many supporters around, thought he could of been a great England prospect. He is one of those players, for me that I always remember, of the nearly men.I believe he had that something special, and could of only be good, cos you couldnt forget him..
okie fox Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 Eadie scored in the first few minutes for Norwich against us at Filbert Street, then went off ill about ten minutes into the game. Martin O'Neill was Norwich manager but failed to turn up because he was jumping ship to us. We were 0-2 down but won 3-2.
Aus Fox Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 I thought when on the pitch he was always a stand out. Loved the way he went about his buisness and anyone that gets a winner at Upton Park is a legend in my book. I don't know how many times they beat us before Eadie got the winner, althogh as I remember their keeper (Hislop??) may have played a part. If he could have avoided injury I'm sure he would have played for England, in a time when the left side was the only weakness in a very good squad.
Len Finsbury Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 I remember a game in the cup from 97. Elliot tackled him right on the sideline and you could hear the crunch from carling stand. It was at this game that my funniest memory of Darren Eadie comes from. He's related to the wife so I got tickets for us both to go and see this match, we ended up in pen 1 (this was when it was unreserved seating for those that can't remember). If I remember correctly, MON had expressed an interest in him earlier in the season but he'd publicly turned us down in favour of staying at Norwich. As a result, the kop were giving it to him with chants like "Darren Eadie, what a w****r, what a w****r" whenever he got the ball. It was during a particular vitriolic attack that my mrs (we weren't married then) turns to me, with a dead serious face, and says... "tell them to stop"! I burst out laughing, I'm still unsure what it was that she expected me to do.
Collymore Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 Fully fit he was probably the quickest player in the country.I'd stick my neck out and say that we've never had a quicker player since. I remember when we played Arsenal once (I think when we won on penalties in the league cup) and O'Neil must have instructed him to keep tabs on Henry due to our slow centre backs. Henry had a 10 yard head start on him from the half way line and was through on goal with no one to be seen. Eadie not only managed to catch him but over took him and pinched the ball from Henry's front! Quite simply frightening pace - I put his dodgy knees down to the fact that he was abnormally fast and no knees in the world would have coped.
Bayfox Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 Injured a lot. But that game at arsenal in the cup filling in at Lwb. He was immense. Think we escaped with a draw live on telly and won the replay.
Donut Posted 28 October 2015 Posted 28 October 2015 A very exciting player that had his career sadly cut short by injury.
Bettsj2 Posted 29 October 2015 Posted 29 October 2015 O'Neill wanted him from day 1 of coming to Leicester. Finally got him paying loads and he was, well, meh.
bluebeau Posted 16 November 2015 Posted 16 November 2015 He had a great career at Norwich, orthodox winger who was very fast & put great crosses into the box & could score a few goals himself. I was really excited when MON signed him, but as mentioned by several posters, he was very injury prone & so never lived up to expectations at Filbo. I think I recall he came back as a guest & when The Birch introduced him onto the pitch he got a great reception.
Head Honcho Posted 16 November 2015 Posted 16 November 2015 Spent too much on an injury prone player who wasn't up to much anyway! If I remember rightly O'Neill tried for Matt Holland too and he turned us down to stay at Ipswich. Thank god!
Captain... Posted 16 November 2015 Posted 16 November 2015 Really good player, I really liked what I saw of him at Norwich and Leicester, but he was his own worst enemy when it came to injuries. I was told he was too impatient with his rehab, would try and do too much too soon and get injured again. Read somewhere he had a real battle with depression after he was forced to retire from football, now runs a charity auction website: http://www.sellebrity.org.uk/
