Richard Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 "When I think of Burnley, I think of wooden seats." Both Anfield and Goodison park have wooden seats - fantastic grounds. I like turf moor. I was in the home end with my mate & his grandad the day we all but sealed promotion - great bunch of blokes there. Contrary to others on here, I don't mind dyche. I think he's learnt that you can't exist purely on bargain basement signings and sometimes your got to swallow your pride and spend. Think he'll do well
Danizen Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 When I think of Burnley, I think of Sean 'undisclosed fee' Dyche trying to hide how much he's really spent while pleading poverty.
deep blue Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 No idea why they're still taking every opportunity to compare themselves to us. The differences are firstly Vardy is much better. Then we actually bought Vardy from non-league whereas Burnley bought Gray as an 18-goal Championship striker. What he's saying is that they have comparable styles, not that they are currently at the same level, and that Gray has the potential and time to develop into a Vardy. Seems fair comment to me. We should welcome rival fans whose views are measured and stimulate discussion.
burnleyfan Posted 6 November 2015 Author Posted 6 November 2015 With regards to our signings we have still made a profit - or will do when the Ings fee is decided at the tribunal. We sold Trippier to Spurs for £3.5 million due to a release clause. Sold Shackell to Derby for £3 million Estimates are that we'll get around £6-6.5 million for Ings due to him being under 23 even though he was out of contract. We only bought Gray for £6 million knowing we will get that back on the Ings sale We got Lowton for £1 million, Darikwa for £600k, Hennings for £2 million We are only spending what we get in fees - whether that's the right policy (certainly in the Championship, maybe not in the PL)
The Horse's Mouth Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Mahrez as mentioned is the best example. I bet Le Havre are absolutely sick. Kante at £5.5mil looks a steal too given some of the astronomical fees that bang average players go for. He's been as important as Vardy/Mahrez this season for me and fits our style to a tee. Pretty sure Drinkwater was only £500k, and is producing the kind of form that if he played for Spurs he would have been called up yesterday. The vast majority of our players could go for more than we paid for them and that's the way clubs like us and Burnley need to go about it. People baulked at the fee for Gray but if he keeps this up he could be a £20mil player in 12 months time. I've always been impressed with the way Burnley go about forwards. Ignoring blowing money on Jutkiewicz and Sordell, you've had some quality forwards in recent years. Not really, they were lucky they got cash as we would've signed him on a bosman if not.

It's important to keep hold of your best players and, if you HAVE to sell them, make a good enough return to improve the squad. Darikwa at £600k is cheap, but if he's only playing at an average Championship level, that's £600k gained from sales of your best players spent on arguably worsening your team.
burnleyfan Posted 6 November 2015 Author Posted 6 November 2015 what happened with the lad you signed and then sold back again a month later? personal problems? Vossen had got married during the summer but his wife couldn't settle in England. We got back what we paid for him.
foxfanazer Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 If Gray puts a bit more work in he too could be playing out of position for England!
ScouseFox Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Our Starting 11 could easily be: Kasper £1m Simpson £1.5m Morgan £1m Huth £3m Fuchs FREE Albrighton FREE Schlupp YOUTH Kante £5m (trust me, a bargain) Drinkwater £1m Mahrez £450k Vardy £1m £14m for a team sat third in the premier league.... not "many pound notes". cheaper than burnleys starting eleven probs and they're all shit
Dan Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 Not really, they were lucky they got cash as we would've signed him on a bosman if not. That's true but even then a small part of them must think if they'd been a bit luckier in the timing of it they could have made some real money on him. If they've got even a 10% clause in his next transfer they're laughing.
Littletoe Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 Burnley have done well with their transfers and signings mate. Your club hasn't got the funds to experiment like we did, but your way seems to be working for you at the moment, my fear with Burnley this season, is whether they can sustain the injuries later on. We have a very strong scouting network, that's for sure.
Banks Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 "Plus my Burnley ST mate says Darikwa has been incredibly average." Darikwa has stepped up from playing for Colchester to going straight into our fist team. Matt Lowton - signed from Villa was meant to be first choice but got injured. Darikwa does make a few 'heart in the mouth' mistakes but he makes up for it by being lightening quick. On the whole he's done very well for £600k Forgive me if I'm wrong but I swear you signed him from Chesterfield?
ScouseFox Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 another prem goal for j vards, andre gray who cost nine times as much draws a blank against wolves. what a comparison.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 7 November 2015 Posted 7 November 2015 It's annoyed me for a little while that Gray was playing in Leicestershire and we didn't have a look. He's done very well as he has progressed through the leagues
