Guy Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 While we might be in dreamland for now, obviously we're not getting carried away but loving the moment of being top of the Prem in convincing fashion - and much more so than when we last in this enviable position under the false dawn that was Peter Taylor's early tenure fifteen years ago! Long may this last. I think a top six will be realistic now personally.....top four remains a pipe dream for me really, as does winning the league! On a more interesting note, I don't know if it's escaped people's attention on here but the fact that Man. Utd being in second place are next up at home (with us being top), probably rekindles strong memories of this time in 2000 when we went on to get stuffed 0-3 by them at Filbert that October (Teddy Sheringham, Becks, Scholes and co.) - which somehow went on to definite our season in a more realistic way thereafter under Taylor possibly....despite remaining in the top four until the March (2001), until totally imploding after the Wycombe FA Cup disaster and ending up 13th! Let's hope it isn't a repeat of that this Saturday with all to follow it in the months after, 15 years on.....! While 13th would still do us as a finish, it would be a huge anti climax now surely?!
Webbo Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Well, I wasn't having nightmares until you just reminded me of all that, now I'm afraid to go to sleep at night. We're doomed, doomed I tell ya.
RedSoxUK Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 I recall a certain 5 - 3 that keeps all my pipe dreams a potential reality.
Larry_LCFC Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 Well, I wasn't having nightmares until you just reminded me of all that, now I'm afraid to go to sleep at night. We're doomed, doomed I tell ya. Its ok Webbo. Stick on video devil and keep going until you knacker yourself out. Works for me.
Great Boos Up Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 15 years ago! "false dawn..Peter Taylor..imploding..an anti climax? There's no pleasing some people. 15 years ago I was thin and could maintain an erection. Now I'm fat and floppy and top of league.
Fox92 Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 We weren't top of the league in late November though.
Claridge Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 This man utd team doesn't have players of that calibre.
VLC86 Posted 22 November 2015 Posted 22 November 2015 I saw a stat that says only 6 teams have been top of the league at this point since 00's and we are one of them. Unbelievable stuff
Guy Posted 23 November 2015 Author Posted 23 November 2015 Great posts lads, thanks :-) Been busy since my initial posting so sorry for xtra late response! What I started off saying was in no way wishing to piss on our unbelievable bonfire so far, I was just looking back to parallel universe times perhaps!Man. Utd under Fergie at that time were indeed different class to everyone around them barring Arsenal of course - and Liverpool when they turned up every now and then. Meanwhile "we're gonna win the league...........!!" :-)))))
Bettsj2 Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Football is full of stories of fate and comparison so understand why anyone would be thinking back to that. The differences are:- Ranieri infinitely better manager than Taylor Man Utd were a much better team back then Leicester were a much worse team back then Akinbiyi then, Vardy now. I'm not saying we'll stay in the top 4. We may not even stay in the top 6. We might get stuffed on Saturday and not win for another 5 games. Its all possible but we've seen enough now to know how capable we are and that we are building something very special here whereas in the past, we were dismantling something very special.
ramboacdc Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 my logic is, we are in the perfect position for one of the worst christmas runs we have had in a long time. if we are going to fall, it doesn't matter if we are falling from the top. i would be more worried going into this run in Villa's position.
Countryfox Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 Just ask yourself this ... When have you seen a LCFC team playing better than this .... When have you seen a LCFC team consistently playing better than this ... When has a LCFC team had the Prems top scorer in their team ... When has the top scorer been the fastest player in the Prem and played for England .... Who is top of the Prem on merit ... Who has the best and noisiest support home and away .... If I was a Man U fan, I'd be worried !! Dreams mate, not nightmares !
BirminghamFox Posted 23 November 2015 Posted 23 November 2015 I really can't see us falling away rapidly, we will obviously lose a few games over the next few months but I see us beating Utd by the odd goal. We are in a great position both mentally and physically. Utd will be terrified of us!
Guy Posted 24 November 2015 Author Posted 24 November 2015 More great 'in between' posts and all v.constructive :-) As another book-end to the posts since my last one, then people (other fans, our fans, pundits, experts alike) have been saying "obviously we will be falling away soon" for some time now (vociferously and probably thinking/saying that between themselves) but I'm not now so sure that we will now. The footballing nation, including all of us on here were most likely wondering if we'd bounce back from the Arsenal footballing lesson at home two months ago in immediate fashion and indeed nobody shirked, we got on with it and we have promptly remained unbeaten ever since, save for the minor blip against Hull in the LC which we still didn't lose after 90 mins. Admittedly we've been lucky with nothing of any note on the injury front to date and are now going to be thoroughly tested by the calibre of opposition between now and January 2016 but all is possible, finishing where we now are included - re outlandish predictions!
