Lazy Schlupp

If you switched the game on just after schlupp had came on you'd have thought he'd been run ragged the whole game, he just looked knackered whilst casually strolling back after losing the ball or whilst closing the man down, not what you'd expect from a player that's just been dropped and is fighting for his place back..... for the record I rate schlupp just expected a bit more effort from the lad yesterday

to be fair, he was meant to start but he thought the game was in manchester and had to run back

The whole team was obviously told by CR to hold shape and wait for the counter, we did but Leo fluffed the chance. Just because Schlupp wasn't running around gung ho doesn't mean he's lazy.

He isn't the most technically gifted player in the team and makes some poor decisions, but I refuse to accept he is lazy.

I'm a big, big defender of poor Jeff but I can honestly see why people might have said this yesterday. A few 50-50s he didn't compete for, lack of movement... looked massively out of his depth. The truth is, though, that he's not massively out of his depth and he's shown this more than once. His total lack of awareness was the reason for the quite justifiable criticism. Like you, I wouldn't want to put it down to laziness, but I can fully understand any confusion. I mean, he did look shocking.

Perhaps we are, for the first time, talking about Ranieri substitutions which didn't work. It should have been Okazaki for Ulloa rather than vice versa, Schlupp wasn't the right man for the day and Drinkwater offered nothing while King, who did well in the 5-3 (unless I'm mistaken, which is perfectly possible) was sat on the bench. But we got a great result and Ranieri has made many, many inspired changes during the season and the point reflects extremely well on him, so who am I to complain?

I remain a big fan of Schlupp and am sure he's going to continue to have a big part to play in how we maintain our season.

I do find it staggering sometimes the stick he can get from our own fans, especially Scouse Fox who takes the piss out of him whenever he possibly can, or so it seems.

Schlupp is not a bright footballer. He's an instinct footballer. And I'm sure his athleticism and fitness levels will be important as the season progresses into its last third. Just like last season where he remained solid and tireless.

Yes, totally agree. On the other hand I was shocked to hear him speak recently, because he came across as a reasonably bright guy. Maybe I didn't listen properly, who knows, but if that's the case there's every chance he'll continue to learn. It's worth remembering that his progress over the past 4 years has been exceptional, and he's - what? - 22 years old. There was a time when we had only one youngster in the side in Stef Oakes, who was 23 at the time, and because he was the only youngster in sight we convinced ourselves for years on end that he was far better than he was. It'd be nice if we could cut Schlupp, Moore, Chilwell and Lawrence a bit of slack because, for once, they stand a decent chance of making the grade. I mean, where were Vardy and Morgan when they were 22 years old? There's hope yet.

After he'd been on for about ten minutes a mate said 'I can't work out what position Schlupp thinks he's playing'.

My reply 'Whichever one keeps him furthest from the ball'.

As Dyer can't play next week I can see why Schlupp went on instead of Dyer. I quite like him but yesterday was disappointing.

Apart from yesterday, he's been pretty decent in the PL.

He's not as worse as Simpson at the other end as well imo.

I think simpson has been an excellent replacement for de laet

'enlightened' cos they agree with you but if someone doesn't then they don't have the right attitude.

Can see where the OP is coming from.

Schlupp, despite lacking quality and intelligence at times, is usually of the hardest working and committed players.

On Saturday though he didn't adjust to the pace of the game, but it's harsh to criticise him after a 10 minute cameo.

I've heard this argument a few times, but I don't get it. If we thought Dyer was the better option then we'd bring him on against United with ten minutes to play and two points to be won. Next week can look after itself, and who knows whether 10 minutes this week prepares for 10 minutes next?

It seems as though Jeff was told not to push and get done by Darmian (who is quick). I don't think he's stupid, as some people are desperate to claim, but he did look over-cautious. This, combined with Ulloa not providing the 'hassle' that Shinji did, meant we really did not threaten in the last 10 minutes. It wasn't our most inspiring performance of the season, and we drew with United to stay joint top. Life's not so bad.

But regards OP, he's obviously not lazy: for future reference if it isn't clear whether his performance has been lazy, following orders or uncertain, then use existing knowledge. I think we've seen enough of him over the years to say it's one of the latter...
