Lazy Schlupp

Having had another great day out yesterday where we could well have got another three points, after a good display - not our best but a good performance - I feel I have to question the part Jeff played in proceedings.

Aside from the lack of technical ability and understanding of positional play, yesterday - not for the first time this season - I saw a distinct lack of effort, or laziness from him, which above all else really grates with me given the efforts to a man, the rest of the boys always put in from start to finish.

Given he only played part of the second half, I find this totally unacceptable, and something that completely goes against this teams ethic.

Can you explain why please?

He isn't the most technically gifted player in the team and makes some poor decisions, but I refuse to accept he is lazy.

Think you can throw many accusations at young Jeff but laziness isn't one of them imo. He's a limited footballer as we all know but he loves it here and gives his all for us. He did look quite poor yesterday but it looked a tough game to come in to

Listening to Claudio's post-match interview, I've got a feeling he wanted his wide players to tuck in and help DD and N'Golo. Jeff's interpretation of that was obviously to look stand narrower than usual and look confused while the crowd willed him to close down.

I don't think we should focus too much on negatives though. I've seen criticism of Schmeichel, Drinkwater, Okazaki, Ulloa and Schlupp already after last night - overall it was yet another positive performance though in the grand scheme of things.

Schlupp is so frustrating. Has all this pace but rarely uses it.

I understand the lazy criticism, he does look lazy at times, he looks asleep at times too.

We'd pretty much parked the bus when he came on, certainly looked like CR had settled for a draw probably justified as the team surprisingly looked knackered.

Probably due to the mental pressure rather than physical

I don't think we parked the bus, it was just with Ulloa on for Okazaki we lose a lot of pressing and Man United were just passing us to death we still got some great breaks in as we tried to bring them forwards. We couldn't close them down in the same with Ulloa on the pitch and we did lose a lot of intensity with the subs and fatigue.

I also thought Jeff was poor, but not lazy just not sure what to do.

A prime example is when he ran with ball from the half way line right to their goal line. Fantastic pacey sprint but then just ran it out of play instead of then creating something. That's not lazy, he just lacks vision.

You're right but I'm not surprised. Like I mentioned the teams had cancelled each other out and game had reached a stalemate. Both were more committed to being careful than taking risks and Schlupp seems best when we're just going for it and having to cover back if we lose the ball. He doesn't seem to like complications. They leave him in two minds or even more! :D

It may not have been intended although bringing Jeff on seems to add to that view but we were definitely 10 often 11 men behind the ball, sure we got some breaks but that doesn't alter the park the bus perspective.

As for our breaks yes we created a few bit I thought they were mostly quite poor either with too many over hit long balls  or lacking direction.

Offensively I thought it was one of our poorer performances

I don't think he is intentionally lazy. He just sort of stops at times because he doesn't know what's going on.

One thing's for sure though, Jeff has been dropped, and faces a tough task getting back into the side.

Yesterday I saw numerous occasions of ball watching, and not closing people down. I saw him stand and watch Blind get to the ball on the the sideline near to their penalty box when he could have got to the ball himself. I saw him in their half walking then jogging back over the halfway line when all others had sprinted back to our side of the centre circle.

I'm not making these instances up. He could not be tired, so how is that not laziness?

The usual suspects are lining up for the latest scapegoat. The idiot who sits behind me also called him lazy after his first touch from a hollywood cross field pass which asked a lot of him to get to it. His posture is slightly awkward, in the same way,  Richie De Laet has an unusual running style. Being different these tend to attract the ignorant

You just get the impression sometimes that when he comes on Ranieri has spent a couple of minutes telling him what he wants him to do and the only words Jeff could recognize were pizza and tomato.

Mate this is a forum for discussion of all things LCFC.

My understanding is we are allowed to be critical when we feel it is justified.

And what on earth are you talking about "Jeff hating"?

Oh and name calling. Grow up ffs.

Saw exactly the same mate as did everyone around me from the comments being made.

Jeff has many shortcomings but laziness is not one of them!

OP has got it totally wrong there.

Jeff sometimes lacks awareness and as has been quoted on here, a footballing brain.

Hardly a scapegoat mate. We got a decent point against a top team. He didn't drop a clanger and cost us points yesterday.

The point being, I don't think he was trying as hard as she should have been.

So why not put your pathetic criticism of a sub in the existing Schlupp thread.

Complete non-thread.
