Len Finsbury Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 This. It's highly unlikely that anyone we want to improve the squad will be available and certainly not at a decent price. I'm sure we'll be making enquiries but most good deals are done in the summer. This true. January is usually just the time to panic buy or pay over the odds. The only time this changes is if a player's unhappy.
FoxinNotts Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 Right back in Jan Tall number 10 in Jan Keeper in summer Young centre half who is good on the ball (very hard to find) in summer Right back: Mattia De Sciglio, from Milan Tall number 10: Yoann Gourcuff, from Renne Get these in, we're completely sorted. Challenging for Europe.
MC Prussian Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 Right back: Mattia De Sciglio, from Milan Tall number 10: Yoann Gourcuff, from Renne Get these in, we're completely sorted. Challenging for Europe. We already are.
FoxinNotts Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 We already are. I know. I meant, challenging IN Europe. If we get there, we are going to need to strengthen in these areas, and retain a sizeable squad to cope with more games. The likes of Inler and Kramaric will come into their own. If we are still up there, high up in the table in Jan, we seriously need a plan to push on. (Which I'm sure will be in place) We are getting great exposure, and now will be the time to strike, and get even more quality to our club. To lure the Italy full back, Ranieri will need his influence. We could also loan to Milan Andre Kramaric for the remainder of THIS season, only. Yoann Goucuff's dad is the Algerian coach, so we may have a link there. Gourcuff was supposed to be the new zidane! Gerimin. I've thought it all through.
Staffs Fox Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 I would have checked myself into a mental facility 3 months ago for saying this but does anyone think we might need another striker? As I sat there on Saturday, I was pleading with Ranieri to bring Ulloa on because Okazaki just wasn't cutting it IMO. Ulloa came on and I was left thinking the exact same thing and this isn't an isolated incident. We have been incredibly lucky Vardy has been incredible because 3 goals between the others tells its own story. It's not vital and I'd obviously prefer to wait until the Summer but if the right player is available I think this position could be strengthened, if we can offload Kramaric

Why would we need to add more players in January that can't make it to the starting XI? My guess is the owners and the management are looking at it on a monthly basis and will make a sound assessment at the end of the season. Now is not the time to chase after panic buys in a transfer window notoriously bad from a buyer's perspective.

Now is not the time to chase after panic buys in a transfer window notoriously bad from a buyer's perspective. No panic buying, we just need some foresight, and a carefully thought out plan. This needs to come from the owners etc, either the guidance of the scouts and manager. The only concern is that, who running our club, has been in this position before? With regards to not getting in the team, this is a consideration, of course.
stox259 Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 My main worry would be that a 'big four' team comes in for Vardy in Jan. It's a double edged sword in that Vardy would improve their team and of course seriously weaken Leicester's team who seem genuine contenders to break into the top 4!
Bettsj2 Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 Buy Ivanovic from Chelsea. Clearly wants out and if back on form would be an excellent addition to our backline.
possiblygeorge Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 I'm calling it now. Vardy & Mahrez aren't going anywhere. Bookmark it.
Foxxed Posted 30 November 2015 Posted 30 November 2015 I reckon Mahrez will have more bids than Vardy: younger and less worries about fitting into a team's style. The stats put him up there with Özil http://www.whoscored.com/Articles/ejnh79njc0aqdhbfdqavgq/Show/Team-Focus-Input-of-Leicester-Support-Cast-Just-as-Vital-as-Vardy-Goals
Leicester_Numan Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 I wouldn't expect anyone to come in unless we have to replace Vardy or Mahrez. It's fairly obvious we need another option up front, 2 if Vardy goes, but we won't pay over the odds in January except as a panic buy to replace him. We'll be tracking plenty of players, 1 or 2 may be available, so there's always the chance of a Mahrez style bit of business, I just wouldn't expect anything to happen, in or out.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 I would look to offload one or two as I think a squad can be too big personally. I'd replace Shinji with a real goal scorer. Kasper with a bigger and more commanding keeper and Simpson or Delaet with a very good RB.
Loggy88 Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 I'd only look for a new striker in January but the chances of getting a good one at sensible money is very low. Think we need someone to ease the pressure on Jamie, and I'd let Kramaric go.
Jacnah Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 I would have checked myself into a mental facility 3 months ago for saying this but does anyone think we might need another striker? As I sat there on Saturday, I was pleading with Ranieri to bring Ulloa on because Okazaki just wasn't cutting it IMO. Ulloa came on and I was left thinking the exact same thing and this isn't an isolated incident. We have been incredibly lucky Vardy has been incredible because 3 goals between the others tells its own story. It's not vital and I'd obviously prefer to wait until the Summer but if the right player is available I think this position could be strengthened, if we can offload Kramaric yes, although there is one caveat. One thing that Ranieri has changed is quite fundamental; he has moved Vardy into the centre and set the team up so that he is the 'point of the spear'. Its not suprising that most goals come through him because thats the way we are set up; to thrust the 'point' so to speak. Others dont have the attrbutes to play this role due to a lack of pace, strength and agression. As an example Ulloa has strength and agression but not real pace, Kram lacks aggression and possibly real pace and is it the case that Okazaki appears ineffective because we are judging him as a striker, whereas the role he plays is a supporting one for the 'point'? If we wanted a backup to Vardy and to play the same way, then that back up wouldnt get on the pitch until vardy was injured, otherwise we would need to change the way we are playing and the structure of the team. Any player coming in under those circumstances would need time to adapt and acclimatise. All of this needs to be complemented by the 'right cultural fit' for the team. So the caveat is - how are we going to find a player that at least has the potential to be better than we have, is quite prepared to come and sit on the bench for some time, is able to instantly perform when they get on the pitch and will be a team player who wont rock the boat despite having huge belief in their own ability? I dont envy Walshies scout team their task :-)
MooseBreath Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 It's not impossible to get good deals in January. Mahrez for example. But I wouldn't sign anyone unless it was another potential bargain or a replacement for someone who leaves, most likely Kramaric.
artursteppe Posted 1 December 2015 Author Posted 1 December 2015 It's not impossible to get good deals in January. Mahrez for example. But I wouldn't sign anyone unless it was another potential bargain or a replacement for someone who leaves, most likely Kramaric. You have nailed it there. Mahrez is the very reason we should be looking in January for quality which is 'under the radar'. All those who are saying our squad is good enough are about right, but they are all missing the point We should buy our next one or two superstars for the future, NOW, if we can. January is the best 'window' for that sort of business. Young foreign talent, or real young talent from our lower divisions, even if we loan them back to their current clubs for the rest of the season. Invest in the future!
artursteppe Posted 1 December 2015 Author Posted 1 December 2015 If Kramaric goes, weren't we linked with a Swiss future 'superstar' striker about 19/20 years old, a few months ago - estimated purchase price 20m Euros. Get him now!
MC Prussian Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 If Kramaric goes, weren't we linked with a Swiss future 'superstar' striker about 19/20 years old, a few months ago - estimated purchase price 20m Euros. Get him now! Well, what's the point in replacing a Croatian "superstar" striker with a Swiss "superstar" striker when he can't get into the team, either?
Dan Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 I'm in the camp of strengthening. We might never get a chance like this again. Don't throw money around for the sake of it though, the signing policy should always be that they fit into the club and team ethic, not to do with how much they cost. I've got full faith that our scouts will deliver. They normally always do. They're terrific and set us apart from so many other clubs, even some top sides.
Dan Posted 1 December 2015 Posted 1 December 2015 Well, what's the point in replacing a Croatian "superstar" striker with a Swiss "superstar" striker when he can't get into the team, either? Because he might actually be a superstar? Which Kramaric hasn't been. Kramaric is exactly the kind of calibre I hope we go for, it just sometimes doesn't come off, but when it does, it can be brilliant. Don't let outliers prevail over common sense. I reckon signings of Kramaric's ilk will work more often than not.
artursteppe Posted 1 December 2015 Author Posted 1 December 2015 Well, what's the point in replacing a Croatian "superstar" striker with a Swiss "superstar" striker when he can't get into the team, either? Why publicise to everyone your lack of imagination? Furthermore, I did not refer to Kramaric as being a 'superstar'. I am not sure anyone ever has, except you of course. The word delusional comes to mind when people like you have to invent things to make a point.
artursteppe Posted 7 December 2015 Author Posted 7 December 2015 Sir Alex Ferguson probably read my comments at the start of this thread. He is saying Leicester should BUY in the January transfer window ( and not sell, obviously ), because they have a great chance of winning the Premier League by adding to what is already a very good squad. Do it Claudio, a couple or three real quality players, and let's go for it.
Izzy Posted 7 December 2015 Posted 7 December 2015 Sir Alex Ferguson probably read my comments at the start of this thread. Most definitely I'd say..
