I booked a nice apartment in Canary Wharf. Was absolutely fine. The only issue I did have was because I only wanted 2-3 nights and was booking a few months in advance a lot of the hosts declined my booking because they were holding out for a week booking. But most were upfront about it.

Never used them personally, but a friend yesterday said they have been on watchdog. But could be ok to use now, not sure how long ago it was.

I found it to be no more or less hit and miss than booking through one of the other sites. You need to be careful but I found my host to be really accommodating.

You have to remember that in many cases, these are individuals renting out one or two properties and sometimes plans change. A colleague of mine had booked a house in London but two weeks beforehand the host contacted her to say that she had a family problem and the house was not available any more. She got her money back of course straight away but then had to find somewhere else to stay!

We booked one in Copenhagen when we went in november and two friends did the same at a different place. It all worked out well, I think as long as you stick to well rated ones you're alright.

Yeah it's excellent, as others have said just make sure you stick to the well rated ones.

If you are staying in a place like London for a week it works out a lot cheaper than a decent hotel, not to mention what you save on the bill bar etc

Big fan, although there was something recently that meant they had to kick off a lot of their hosts due to some legal reason.

Used it about 10 times never with any problems, the only real downside is picking up the key, had to hot foot it across Ghent to get to the property and pick up the keys before the host left for the week due to a severely delayed Eurostar.

Used them a dozen times, have always been brilliant. Great places at good prices.

My only warning is, they take the money before confirming, so if the host cant accomodate, you may have to wait a week to get the refund.

Just check with the host for availability before "booking"

My dad used Airbnb to book accommodation in Canary Wharf for over a year, he's never been disappointed.

You can often find gems on there, we stayed in a place in Memphis for dirt cheap, the people were really friendly and offered tips for where to got and what to do.

Just got back from Venice and Ljubljana and had a fantastic Airbnb experience at both. Just look at the reviews and see what people say about the host.

Our Slovenian host gave us a mug, a bottle of local wine and 90 euros back to cover 2 nights we missed at his place due to a missed flight. He had absolutely no obligation to do this and he was a brilliant host.

It's really opened my eyes to the kind of people you can meet through it, I'd definitely recommend it. There's some fantastic places available on there as well, I can't see myself using a hotel again any time soon.

My daughter and husband use it often, all around europe.

For city trips, countryside retreats and beach holidays.

So far no negatives.

We are off to Sardinia using a place, on the beach. The owner

is not in the building, but is flexable when we meet.

Cheaper than other villa and chalets on offer, for the time. (MAY).

Yes, have used it, but only in the UK. All my experiences have been pretty good.
