davieG Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Plymouth job Lennie Lawrence Tony Pulis John Gregory Trevor Francis Stan Ternent Would you choose any of them over Levein and what's more to the point would they /could they have done any better. Of course it's all conjecture. I'll stick with Levein thanks.
Claymore Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 So there's some quality applicants out there
Anish Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 I think Tony Pulis and Stan Ternent are fairly good managers in this league. They both did remarkably well with Stoke and Burnley respectively - and although they don't have much experience of leading teams to promotion/play offs, neither did Levein when he came to us.

FNQ Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 I think Tony Pulis and Stan Ternent are fairly good managers in this league. Levein doesn't have any experience of anything.
Steven Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Levein doesn't have any experience of anything. At being best of the rest in the SPL.
Gené and Tonic Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Pulis and Ternent would do a good job at Plymouth. Although you are right, Levein is the better of them.
cisono Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Levein doesn't have any experience of anything. That's a bit of a sweeping statement. He might not have had at first, but by now he has *some* experience of some things at least.
davieG Posted 18 September 2005 Author Posted 18 September 2005 Levein doesn't have any experience of anything. Another one of those lucid, thought provoking, fact filled, reasoned statements we've come to expect from FNQ, if you have an opinion please try and make it worth reading, your posts are becoming very like a boriing 0-0 draw at Molineux.
Hazza Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Pulis and Ternent have done reasonably well in this league, but they've got reputations for being boring too. I'll stick with Levein thanks, and for a while as long as the calibre of possible replacements are at that level.

henry's best mate Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Just before CL got the job, i actually wanted lennie lawrence, stuart pearce or gary mac to take over, but i glad we got CL let's just hope we start winning consistently
Gené and Tonic Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 Stuart Pearce would probably have been the better appointment, but we weren't to know.
cisono Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 OK, OK, since you seem to be having trouble settling on a name, I put my name forward for the position. Not that I think I could do better than Levein, but I would certainly enjoy having a go!
Sparky Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 bloody hell i forgot that stuart pearce was linked with the city job , a few tabloids had him as the boards number 1 choice imagine now there may have been a bit of passion in the side
Katy Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 Good thread DG. When you look at those applicants it (should) actually make you appreciate CL more. I would be interested who FNQ would like to see as manager of Leicester City (and you arent allowed to say Micky Adams)
Louise Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 bloody hell i forgot that stuart pearce was linked with the city job , a few tabloids had him as the boards number 1 choice imagine now there may have been a bit of passion in the side He was linked to us in a few of the tabloids but it would have come to nothing if we'd asked for him anyway, by then it was already clear that Keegan was going to leave Man City and Pearce would get a chance in his place.
Scow Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 Have you taken in to consideration that you don't necessarily appoint an applicant? Dave Penney from Doncaster was my choice before we appointed Levein.
Ric Flair Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 Stuart Pearce applied for the Leicester job last season, anyone else as gutted as I am? What a manager he is turning out to be.
Ric Flair Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 why are we even having this conversation. It's the joys of being a football fan. When we win the next 3 games, everyone will be singing EI-EI-EI-OOH I am as fickle as the rest of them, it's hard not to be. Deep down though i'll back Levein until the death, his strengths still outweigh his weaknesses and he's not a **** like Micky Adams was.
Fox in a Box Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 Well, I was at the fans forum, days before CL appointment. The Board, were fully aware of CL and what he had done at Hearts (currently top of SPL), they thought that he had all the ingredients that make a successful manager. He has done wonders off the pitch bringing down wages/ changing personnel etc Get off his back we are 9 games in of a season that should we should judge him on at the end of. We as a football team are in the process of change and for the better I say. Hes bought through Wello, Stearman, Sheenhan, and many more possibly through the season. Give the man credit where its due, he dosent care for what people have done in the past. This league is tough and each team potentially can beat each other. Norwich are below us and they were installed as FAVORITES. I'm fully behind him! oooer
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 You have to admit though George Burley is showing what a good manager can do with a team like Hearts.
davieG Posted 19 September 2005 Author Posted 19 September 2005 You have to admit though George Burley is showing what a good manager can do with a team like Hearts. Plus a lot more money now they have their sugar daddy on board, by the way Burley doesn't recruit the sugardaddy does that.
Thracian Posted 19 September 2005 Posted 19 September 2005 why are we even having this conversation. With the names mentioned on here, no idea! And no idea in the first place.
