leicsmac Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 ...because it's necessary for you to do so. That could well be true. If it is, then as I said earlier the actions of such an entity are indistinguishable from that of nature and chance and so making a distinction between it and luck is meaningless.

SpinneyHillRanger Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 In that case everything is meaningless except for what our random quantum matter that we call brains/consciousness give meaningless meanings too... We will win the league though...

Don't you just love epistemology? And yes, we will.
Guest Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 This board at the moment is badly in need of a spontaneous chorus of like Cardiff away
UPinCarolina Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 Its the same with luck. There is not such thing as luck. If the ball goes in its because certain physical things have happened for that outcome, luck played no part. I'm with you. Luck = preparation + opportunity / actions taken to capitalize on opportunity As for fate, well...all I have to say is that I hope John Calvin got the whole "predestination" thing wrong.
Sleepy Fox Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 So did you Poindexter's figure out if we are going to win the league or not?
thursday_next Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 I don't believe in fate, predestination or lucky underpants. What I do believe in is hubris. I recognise that these two views are incompatible, but what the ****. I would be happier if no City supporter made the statement that 'we're going to win the league' when we haven't quite just yet. The only exception to this is chants. You can't blame football supporters for singing songs about the team they follow being the greatest team the world has ever seen, even though it's manifest rubbish, particularly when it involves Derby County.
Alf Bentley Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 Interesting stuff. Everything I've learned about quantum mechanics and how it affects things at a macroscopic level makes me think that luck and free will are what guide the Universe though. If you're back in Leicester some time, PM me and we can have an evening discussing quantum mechanics and determinist philosophy.....and probably get banned from whatever pub we're in for being a pair of pretentious twats!

theadmans Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 Yeah but I know that Spurs lost to West Bromwich was down to the fact that I sat with my eyes glued to the TV. I was sending some very heavy Ju Ju over the airwaves to make them lose! It was the same in the old days of Ceefax - it I went out of the room - for even a minute - City would go down a goal - fact.
Sionnach gorm Posted 30 April 2016 Posted 30 April 2016 "We're gonna win the league"! We shall just have to wait and see what providence has in store for us! Thumbs up!
