EastAnglianFox Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 Fantastic for Cav yesterday, can't believe it was the first time he'd beaten Kittel! Really hope he completes the tour, would be nice to win in Paris with maybe his 30th ever stage win. Surely today is about Sagan?

Amin Posted 3 July 2016 Posted 3 July 2016 It was great seeing Cav blast through everyone and win a sprint again. Felt like a long time since his last. Have to say though, I was very disappointed when I found out ITV4 had dropped the Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin commentary for their own team. They were a major part of the reason I watched 4 hours of cycling everyday for 3 weeks.

EastAnglianFox Posted 4 July 2016 Posted 4 July 2016 Yeah its not the same without Liggett and Sherwin, they are still commentating on it but with NBC America, rumour has it ITV didn't take them on this year due to Liggett's ongoing defence of and friendship with Lance Armstrong. As good as Quintana is, with the strength of Team Sky this year, it wouldn't surprise me to see Froome have a good 3-4 minute lead even before the final mountain stage.

Looks like Kittel is struggling for a proper lead out as he was absolutely nowhere.

Strange tactics I thought from Cav, even from 3 or 4km out he seemed to be to far back and no real team around him but can't win them all I guess.

He looked well placed at one point behind Gripel, but he ended up fading and Cav was swamped by riders moving up on the outside. Think he did well to finish where he did given how boxed in he was. The finish certainly reminded me of a few horse races where I've backed a horse that looks in a good position in the closing stages at one point, only to be suddenly boxed in and overtaken from others out the back and end up getting nowhere.

Shout to Dan McLay as well who finished 3rd and has been in the top 10 quite a few times. Not a rider I know much about, but he seems to be trying to carve out a name for himself in the sprinting sphere and can't be doing too bad a job in that respect.

I tongue in cheek mentioned it would be nice for him to get win 30 in Paris, could yet pass that should he not abandon early for the olympics.

The Eurosport coverage is my preferred choice when at home, at work it has to be ITV2. The only downside to Eurosport now is that they gave the main lead commentator to Carlton Kirby who just loves chuckling away to his own jokes or having a personal competition with himself to see how many times he can use the word "Chapeau" towards the end of a stage. They made a big mistake imo a couple of years ago by getting rid of David Harmon who had a great chemistry with Sean Kelly, who I think is great and could listen to him for hours even though he says very little very quietly. I don't at all mind Ned on ITV (especially at how he is trying to French up certain words) but he is more of a reporter than a lead commentator and its a bit awkward with him and David at the minute, especially during the rolling stages that offer little in excitement until the final 40km or so, but that's to be expected as a first time duo I guess. Eurosport are in a different league when it comes to explaining the history of the various stages and different chateau's etc of each region. Anyway to todays stage, my predictions thus far have been awful, only getting Sagan's win correct (which didn't take a genius to predict) only myself to blame for thinking Griepel was going to have the sprint tour of his life! Fancy a French breakaway winner today to follow on from the success of the football team last night, so will go for Bardet or Pinot in a breakaway but knowing my luck in predicting it will prob be Valverde or Alaphillipe.
