RonnieTodger Posted 24 November 2016 Posted 24 November 2016 https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/nov/24/premier-league-lgbt-rainbow-laces-campaign-richard-scudamore The response to this has been absolutely laughable. So many virgins getting wound up at the Premier League changing its logo on social media to have a rainbow coloured background. Exactly the reason why such campaigns exist and that no footballer would presently come out. In fairness, a lot of the archaic are from faraway Premier League "fans" with a Man Utd/Arsenal logo as their profile picture and a very poor grasp of English.

So many people with too much time on their hands. They should use that time to educate themselves and open their closed minds.
VLC86 Posted 24 November 2016 Posted 24 November 2016 Standard stuff, Saw an article the other day discussing what would happen if a player came out and you got the usual "I would stop watching the Premier League" from a 20 year old virgin who hasn't been to a match in their life. The world is a mess and you have to let crap like this go over your head mainly otherwise you would go insane. Fair play to anyone who can be arsed to challenge it though. Just read the twitter thread the state of it.

Yea all wrong granted but I still don't get why people have to come out in 2016 ? It's not 1956 i feel the pink agenda is trying to force gay footballers to out of the closet (when the reality is they aren't in a closet) and there is something quite lord of the flies about all this I don't want any footballer telling me what they are doing sexually , I want to watch them play football I couldn't care less who they are sleepily with

Was wondering where I could get an Umbrella pushing alligator from for a few minutes there
Finnegan Posted 25 November 2016 Posted 25 November 2016 Clever way of selling cool new laces to kids. I assume this was dreamt up by the people that make coloured rubber bracelets.

The biggest market for boots is growing kids, that's why these days boots are all neon and Nike and adidas release new ones every season, sometimes several times a season.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 25 November 2016 Posted 25 November 2016 Maybe there are no gay players..why does everyone always assume there must be loads of them out there living in fear of 'persecution'? Recent survey suggested that 1.5% of the UK population identify as "gay or lesbian"...ok that's a fair few people...but then 2.5% of the population are "British Indian" and we don't have any of them in the Premier League either. Maybe they're just afraid to come out as British Indian? All this corporate D&I shit does my head in. Wish people could just chill

In many cases it's extremely courageous - a friend of mine is a teacher and she had a 14 year old student come to her for advice because his parents are devoutly religious and have said they'd rather he was dead than gay because of what was written in their obscene and stupid little book. That's the sort of person that prominent gay footballer would be a great role model to. I don't think anyone is trying to force anyone out of the closet - "outing" someone against their will or consent is definitely the wrong way to go about it. I do however see it as an attempt to improve the sport to make it a more accepting environment, which is definitely getting there - the Pride supporters clubs are a big step forwards. The main problem I can see is the media attention they would get. I doubt there are many that would want all scrutiny from the press about their private life when all they want to do is play football.

RonnieTodger Posted 25 November 2016 Author Posted 25 November 2016 I think people are missing the point. If someone wants to come out or not, that's their own business. It's the ridiculous response that it's gotten. What's wrong with raising awareness or changing someone's ignorant mind? What's wrong with a player wearing different coloured bootlaces? If it does a little bit, then surely it's worth doing. There's a very weird uncomfortable feeling among many football fans.
