And, and this will shock you all!.....I wonder whether Amartey might have captaincy credentials at some point in the future. Not yet, he's not ready. But maybe at some point in a year or two. What obvious reasons are there though? Apart from handling discussions with the ref, is there actually anyway in which the captain stands out? Our squad has an ample amount of 'leaders' across the pitch, so I don't see organisation or motivation an issue here.

Constantly talking, organising, approaching his players when needed. Generally trying to calm down when needed, to provide a kick up the arris when needed. A figurehead on the pitch. I've always thought it must be difficult to do this as a keeper. You can be constantly talking to your defence (as Kasper does), but further up the pitch it must be almost impossible. I'm struggling to think of too many keepers who have been captains. Probably for this reason. Though I'm sure you'll tell me there have been some. I've always thought the captaincy in football is actually a very important role...as long as it's done well. Possibly an old fashioned view.

I'd want Kasper to have it personally; first name on the team sheet, knows the club inside out and it seems like he has the respect of everyone on the team. He's the leading voice in the dressing room too i'd imagine. If King was a guaranteed starter every week i'd be giving it to him but sadly that's not the case. Would have no problem with Drinkwater, Fuchs, Simpson or Vardy getting it either. I think the extra responsibility to lead by example would make Vards even better personally but it wont happen.
David Hankey Posted 20 December 2016 Posted 20 December 2016 Kasper, to me, is the obvious choice. He gets his message across loud and clear and leads by example, two elementary skills required to be a Captain.

Vardy leads by example, Drinky, Morgan and Kasper all constantly communicate out. To me, where the captain's role is central is in the dressing room and in team matters as well as ambassadorial duties; someone who represents club and players well. But I imagine many see the captain's role like you do and it would also explain why many would want Drinky to get it, if not Morgan.

desertfox2 Posted 20 December 2016 Posted 20 December 2016 The only real reason for not going for Kasper, who is the obvious choice is that he doesn't need to be Captain to be a captain. It's just embedded in him to naturally be a leader and command respect. Some players up their game being captain so it could make sense to give it to an outfield player and basically have 2 captains if that makes sense
brucey Posted 20 December 2016 Posted 20 December 2016 Do captains generally step down when they retire/leave or when they stop being a regular starter? Can't see Morgan stepping down anytime soon, especially after that new Captain Morgan contract he just signed.. Didn't even realise Kasper was already vice captain. Think Kasper is best for captain in all aspects, for media, leadership, motivation etc. If it must be an outfield player I would go with Fuchs, he's definitely staying another 3 years, likely as guaranteed starter and is great in all aspects. I don't think Drinky is captain material, he hates media and is regarded as 'the constantly angry one' by the squad.
ozvaldo Posted 20 December 2016 Posted 20 December 2016 Drinky or Kasper. If they leave in the summer, maybe Fuchs.
