Honestly lost so much respect for Athletico last night, they're a great team so why lower themselves to signalling for cards and falling over easily?

Well it's more like you never saw them play.

Pretty difficult to miss, one of the first things someone should notice. They consider the game as a war, are relentless, play hard and often dirty.

I thought that when the referee was going towards the sport scientist to send him to the stand it was going to be Simeone for his over-the-top reactions.

Honest q.

Can anyone confirm if waving an imaginary card is still a bookable offence? It defintely was in the past at all levels and I thought it still was until this champions league campaign. I'm assuming it isnt as its never been punished in this campaign

Any referees about such as @DB11 who are able to confirm either way?

It's never been an outright offence in itself but it can be an example of unsporting behaviour, which is a cautionable offence. Depends what flavour of the month is and what is in the media interest for the guidelines that the governing body pass down.

100%

I'm surprised by the reaction on here as if this was the first ever football match they have watched.

Players cheat, dive, feign injury, time wasting, surround the ref, influence the ref etc but when the manager do it's suddenly a big deal.

Vardy diving and cheating = part of the game.

Simeone waving imaginary cards = a disgrace.

Atleti are a great team and Simeone is a great coach. The ref was a cvnt but that's not Atleti fault.

As much as his dark arts tactics have helped us, I can't help but cringe with embarrassment whenever I see Vardy or for that, any City player dive.

Fair enough mate and sorry for the irate reply, still licking my wounds.

Hubris belongs in the same bin as Karma- nonsense imo. No offence intended

And to be fair to you, I actually misused the word anyway, so I have to concede here. I accept you exaggerated for effect.

yellow card offence, perceived as 'I un-gentlemanly conduct.. But Ok with EUFA as they cannot have a team like Leicester gracing the final of their Flagship competition.

Aaaaargh, you know enough to nearly get it right and then go and ruin it all by using a term that hasnt been in the laws of the game for well over 20 years!

There is NOTHING in the laws (or rules if you prefer and are a less pedantic than I and are wrong) that requires anyone to do anything about a player waiving an imaginary yellow card.  The ref MAY if the fancy takes him regard the action as UNSPORTING BEHAVIOUR and caution a player for doing so.  Other offences that MAY be considered unsporting include shouting "leave it" or "mine" to deliberately mislead an opponent - this is the " he didnt call a name, ref.  He cant say that" otihers include just about any booking you've ever seen for a foul.  It's the catch all.  I've cautioned players basically for being a tw*t and getting on my nerves but not enough for dissent.
