He has done an unbelievable job at Madrid and fair play to him but he would manage what 4 teams in the prem? He wouldn't get the 'look at me and my small little club' attitude. He would be expected to dominate teams and win which I honestly don't think he has in his locker.

AyewJoking Posted 12 April 2017 Posted 12 April 2017 the ref was clearly bribed because if he was just incompetant, he would have given a penalty for mahrez's dive to make up for the non penalty he gave greaseman.

frany104 Posted 12 April 2017 Posted 12 April 2017 Personally I hate players and mahagers trying to get opposition players booked. However it seems that by asking for a card it can influence a referees decision and you can't be booked for asking. I think we have to start doing the same or we will be at a disadvantage. It certainly doesn't help when the referee was so poor it was bordering on cheating.
Staff Posted 12 April 2017 Posted 12 April 2017 1 hour ago, Koke said: I see nothing wrong with it. Never understood why we in this country get butt hurt over card waving managers and players. Managers and players appeal for everything as it is. From penalties to cheap fouls to handballs to more minutes added on, on top of diving. But weirdly card waving crosses a line. If I was q football manager I'd definitely be an imaginary card waving bellend. If someone commits a bad foul on my player you better believe I want that player booked or sent off. This isn't how we play the game though is it? Simeone waving a card for vardy to get booked when Savic blatantly dived in the right back position is a prime example. Are you saying you agree with that? there is a difference between appealing for a foul and running 30 yards towards an official asking for a card when your own player collapses to deceive the official. but it seems your ok with this, as people appeal for this as it is. the worst foul tonight was griezmann on mahrez, and it didn't even result in a yellow. what would you have given?
tom27111 Posted 12 April 2017 Posted 12 April 2017 Another problem is that a Swedish official was in charge tonight. Sounds harsh, but refs for these big matches should be from the big leagues. It's quarter finals now, we should be looking at refs from England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. They ref huge games every week. This guy doesn't.
fuchsntf Posted 12 April 2017 Posted 12 April 2017 I have a great idea.. the accused player, should go up to the player calling for a card, and while attracting the refs attention, Give the accuser a great left hook, and tell him and the ref, that tackle wasnt a yellow, but this is a fking red. whoopeeee Then kick the ref in between his legs, and tell him, now give a penalty for that you smart bar steward. wouldnt help much!!! but wouldnt half release the tension... Then you give up football and take your wife and kids around the world, writing a book and going on tv shows "How I changed my life' and found zen.
Nalis Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I always thought waving an imaginary card was a yellow. I've seen players get them in the past at all levels and even seen Knocky get one a few years back. Have the rules changed? As its happened throughout this campaign by opposition with no punishment.
burleighfox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Horrible way to treat a fellow professional, very continental. Asking a ref to book someone should at the very least be punishable by a yellow card on the spot.
Foxboro Hot Tub Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Its literally no different to someone begging not to be booked by shouting "its my first one ref" at the referee when hes blatantly crocked someone or appealing for decisions verbally knowing full well it aint a foul to create mental pressure on the referee that next time he should give something. And its easy to brand this kind of thing as "very continental".........all the "dark arts" in the game must be continental because the English are whiter than white? i think not.

Any ref who sees that penalty decision will subconsciously be looking to even things up, they wouldn't be human otherwise. We need to take advantage of that and make the referee wilt for us
Hammo Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 The 'waving an imaginary card' gesture is sneaky and shameless and says a lot about the type of person who does it. Not that your Simeones or Griezmanns give a toss what others think of them. In their world winning is everything and such vile, pathetic behaviour is to be encouraged if it helps the team to gain an advantage. It is up to the referees and the rule book stamp it out.

HighPeakFox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Had the ref been truly bent, he'd have carded Vardy and / or Ndidi.

Could have easily carded Jamie - he looked to be desperate not to card him tbh. to those of you moaning about him last night - we have had excellent refs away from home thus far in the comp and last night was more typical of a 'home ref'. Welcome to real top level European football. btw, he is too wealthy to bribe financially. They must have some compromising photos !
Crinklyfox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Unfortunately, cheats prosper. If a player or a manager can get an opposition player booked or sent off it influences the game in their favour. Refs now have the ability to book a player for cheating (diving), if they had the facility to book players and the manager for trying to influence them in other ways it would be no bad thing. In Rugby Union we don't see players and managers getting up to the same antics, if the ref gives a penalty kick and a player gives him lip the kick moves 10 metres forward. I'd like to see the officials given the same respect in football. Although there are many critics of the ref last night, and I agree that he made some poor decisions, fair play to him for ignoring the imaginary card waving.
harpendenfox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 No clackers next week please. Just a refs card set for us to brandish in unison every time a Madrid player comes within a yard of one of ours
J.Lisemore Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I would be happier if we cheated our way to the semi finals on Tuesday after what happened last night.
foxinsocks Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 If players ask the ref to give a card they are booked. Should be the same for managers including simeoni Until uefa get to grips with this we will kniw that they are a crap organisation brown nosing sponsors

ZeGuy Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Can't believe how many here are wound up about such a small issue, some going as far as calling them "spanish dogs" (Brillant. Simeone is argentine by the way). It's as if people watched a football game for the first time. Vardy provoked Nasri and got him off. He dives all the time. His game is dirty. No one likes him outside Leicester. Does it make him a bad player? No. He's a very good forward who brings a lot of pressure on a defense, partly because of his behavior. It belongs to football, always did. Just like diving, provoking, insulting other players etc. You see it every day or you didn't really paid attention. Anyone who thinks football is fair, is deluded. It's a war and TV don't show half of the dirty stuff happening on the pitch. Simeone is a brillant coach, Athletico a great team. Hopefully we'll beat them, no matter what it takes. The real cvnt here is the ref.
purpleronnie Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I never really understand why people think that somehow we would have drew 0-0 if the pen wasn't given. The whole game changes on moments like that. If it wasn't given we could've lost 5-0....maybe we would have won...no--one knows. 1-0 is a good result at one of the toughest places in Europe. We've had decisions go our way and it barely gets mentioned. Let's move on, we're becoming a bunch of whiny fans, do we really want to be like spurs or Arsenal fans?

He's one of the most tactically astute managers I've seen in the last decade. Fighting toe to toe with super giants like Barca and Real is no small feat. Being in the CL finals in the last three years is quite the achievement. While the Premier League is tough because of the intensity of the play, there is actually no equivalent of Real or Barca or Bayern. I'm confident that he could manage in any league, even one of the top 4 of the PL and get great results. He'll prove it at the Inter in the future.
