Did we continue to play predictable football and stick with underperforming players in your dream too?

It was more a nightmare.

Spaletti just left Roma.

Would love to see Claudio go back to the club he supports with Moshi as Director of football and win the title.

That would be a fairytale end to his career.

I do have one last thought though.......... Conte was under pressure at the beginning of the season ( Even with The Little French Guy ) and he changed their style completely, the players responded and the rest as they say is history... Oh I nearly forgot, so did Spurs for the Chelsea game and Arsenal for their last 5 or 6 games. They managed it, why couldn't we  ?

I think this was one of CR's mistakes, we don't have the type of players that have been developed and coached in many different styles of play, they don't have the intelligence and guile to adapt to what Ranieri wanted. Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal have expensively assembled squads that have been through some of the best academies in the world, we had Villa rejects, ex-non league and French league 2 players. We don't have intelligent players we have highly effective players that can only really play one way they are also big confidence players.

Last season I saw a team have its confidence slowly eroded and anyone that saw our terrible runs under Pearson in the Championship and in the Premier League would have recognised the signs last season. Up until Christmas we were still starting games brightly, but as soon as the first goal went in the heads would drop and the second would quickly follow. Whenever we scored first we won. By the end confidence was rock bottom and players had no confidence in what they were doing and as such the manager telling them to do it. All Shakespeare did was set us up as last season and tell us to go for it. I can't find the last game under Ranieri when we lined up as a 4411 with Drinkwater, Albrighton, Mahrez, Okazaki, Vardy.

Lost the plot by the end. Gray was starting games up front right?? Feels like I imagined that! But was totally ineffective there.

Problem with Ranieri for me was not the run we were on but the fact no one could see how it was gonna get any better.

Had similar runs under Np but I think most of us (certainly me) had confidence we'd turn it around which we always did. We had poor performances but effort was always there even if lacking in other areas. Was obvious that players just weren't turning up for Claudio by the end of it.

As you said once we conceded it was game over straight away

As a fan, it was disheartening to see what we did at Millwall in the fifth round of the Cup. The performance that day didn't take anyway as much stick as normally would have done (thinking Nige v Burton/Shrewsbury) but the worst of it was you had a feeling we would lose that day so much, that it wasn't even a shock.

Very sad how it ended really - the subs bench at Sevilla being the most poignant.

Do agree but the results of the cup games vs Burton and Shrewsbury were in the first rounds and to be honest the bigger picture in both seasons was promotion/staying up. Disappointing yes but not the priority.

Think everyone felt we had a good chance in the cup last year. Should have beaten Millwall and been in the quarter finals. Again a lack of desire or urgency was evident, and if I remember correctly the tactics and subs not used correct or too late were dire.

For me that result was so embarrassing.

He didn't listen to Walsh so what makes you think he'll listen to monchi

I don't think he'd have a choice. Roma haven't gone to the trouble of getting one of the best recruiters in Europe to be overruled by their Head Coach.

Also, clubs are set up differently in Italy with a Head Coach rather than overall Manager.

My main point though is based on being in Rome twice over the last 12 months and becoming aware of how Ranieri is absolutely adored in his hometown.

It would be a wonderful end to a remarkable managerial career if it happened imo.

Can't see them breaking Juventus or Napoli any time soon. Also, inter are super rich now.

Yes I agree, I just liked the romantic thought of it. Got to chat to lots of Roma supporters on my trips and thoroughly enjoyed their company so I have a soft spot for them, not to mention my gratitude to Ranieri for our unbelievable success.

They did Napoli this year.  Juventus is a whole other matter.  Every time Juventus are behind by one goal the extra time seems to be 8+ minutes lol
