Peter Gilbert

only played a few games, when he has he hasnt been exceptional but i think thats to do with confidence, and not being fully match fit. i understand he was one of your better players? im willing to give him a chance as he sounds promising and alot of money was spent in getting him here. he hasnt played enough yet.

Can't understand why we signed him. He's shown himself pretty vulnerable in the little we've seen of him and doesn't seem to have any exceptional qualities to make up for his shortcomings.

We already have a much more talented left back in Alan Sheehan but even he - surely a guy with a long-term international future ahead of him - is often sidelined by non-specialist left backs like Kisnorbo and others.

Gilbert seems a long way down the pecking order, Levein has talked of him being one for the future, but I don't see how he'll command a place in the forseeable future.[

I was really suprised when you splashed out £200,000 on him, he certainly wasnt one of our better players last year, was a real liability most of the time. He was a player we hoped would be one of our better players as he is only 21 but he never cut it last season but was great in league 1.

i wonder why levein splashed out then? 200k is quite a fair ammount on a young un-proven player. and other Argyle fans i spoke to seemed devestated he left and the leics mercury made out that Plymouth didnt want to let him go at all?how is it down in Plymouth. what you hoping of this season from ya new boss? nice to see you beat Stoke and get featured on Soccer Am this weekend chanting "EASY EASY EASY" after the stoke fans chanted it when they scored there 1st. scummy west midlanders.

Waste of money on the evidence so far. I'm not confident at all when he's playing and I'd much rather have Sheehan, Maybury and even Kisnorbo playing LB rather than Gilbert. He's poor going forward and he's a liability in defence.

Gilly had his patches when he played well but they were few and far between I think the reason some fans were dissapointed he left was because we dont have a lot of young talent and he was one player we had high hopes for. In reality though he wasnt that good and cost us a lot of goals last season although our defence generally wasnt that good. For example at your place last year when you beat us 2-1 both goals came from the right wing from poor defending by Gilly.

Things are going better under Pulis hard to tell how things will go long term though, he seems to be getting us organised again and has got rid of the liability of Taribo West. We just need to keep steadily progressing as we are not a club that has wacks of money to splash out on players so i think Pulis was a good choice.

I've heard that Gilbert is a very average player and I was shocked when you signed him in the summer,I don't think I would have been happy if we had signed him and we're league one,so I can't imagine how i would have felt been a Leicester fan reacting to his signing.

I don't fancy him much on the basis of what he has show (nor not shown) so far.

Hopefully he will improve in the future but I am not holding my breath.

It's still early doors , give the lad a chance.

exactly!!!

CL did say when he signed him that he was one for the future he is still a young lad

Give the young lad a chance. Hopefully he will become a good signing in time to come. he is still young and needs to learn alot!

We will see the best of him i future years!

Fine, but why not play (mainly) someone else in the meantime? :)

true, but you have to give him some action like in the Carling Cup games! But as he is developing, play someone else! However, with our squad size this is quite hard to do, especially playing 2 games a week sometimes!

Fitness and confidence do play a huge part. I've not been particularly impressed so far, but let's not rule him out just yet. Some players take longer than others to settle in.

Seems to me he's been forgotten about already. Peter Canero syndrome I reckon. I just can't understand why Levein signed him when we had Sheehan as the youngster coming through and then about 4 or 5 others who could play there aswell. Usually when Craig signs someone and they play badly he sticks with them, but Gilbert has been dropped and disappeared completely recently.

He got injured didn't he? I think he'll be back in the 1st team squad when he's fit,not saying he'll start but a couple of games coming on as Sub will do him no harm.

Might not do him any harm but it may do the team harm if he comes on as a sub! :P

Remember Sheff Utd, it was 1-1 when he came on and we ending up looking a shambles in defence after that, and two of the last 3 goals came from people on his side.
