$200, ignoring the shop keepers mark up.

$100 note,$70 worth of goods plus $30 change

  Reveal hidden contents

But the original stolen $100 note goes back into the till so cancels it out doesn't it?

Therefore he loses net $30 plus his cost of $70 goods? Like @Buce said I think.

P.S. How do you hide contents?

But the owner gets the original $100 note back; he only actually loses the change he gives ($30) plus the value of the goods. Or am I missing something?

I keep trying to explain but it keeps putting it in spoilers. lol

Place spoiler inside [ ] add text.  Place spoiler inside[/ ]

He's not been given the note back, he's taken it in exchange for goods. Thinking about it you might be right but for the wrong reason.

he had $100 stolen, but the transaction was normal business so it would be just 100

Put the word "spoiler" in between [ ] at each end of the sentence.

Webbo has lost the plot. In the original riddle it says he used the £100 note that was originally stolen for the purchase.

I immediately thought 100 and couldn't understand why you could say anything else. But then I thought well you have to assume the person would not have bought those items without stealing the 100. So then I could make a case for losing the 100 that I already said, plus the 70 that he would have made had the person made the purchase.

If he'd spent that money in another shop, you wouldnt say that shopkeeper had lost money, its just the original $100 that was stolen.

I don't put the/ at the end and it still works.

You misspelled the first spoiler.
