Monsell1976 Posted 20 November 2017 Posted 20 November 2017 First time I have given the opposition a 10 but they were sensational. Sorry on this occasion I agree with pep not puel, the score line flattered us, they should have scored many more, the pace and quality was frightening on the break. As for our team, it’s hard to judge, Man City made us look ordinary. Mahrez motm for me, Iborra/ nididi did well under the circumstances, the rest looked average at best
shen Posted 20 November 2017 Posted 20 November 2017 I think it was a bit tricky to differentiate individual performances as Man City were just so good. After their second goal, they controlled the game superbly and our players were left chasing shadows for most of the half. Doesn't feel right to name a MotM here. Schmeichel - 7 - Cannot be faulted for either goal, made some sharp saves and had a couple of great restarts. Maybe the placement for the second could've been better, but that was one helluva rocket from De Bruyne (I'm still at a loss to explain how he got so much power behind it, he hit it so so sweetly). Simpson - 5 - Battled the best he could, but was simply up against a far better player in Sané. Did well along with the rest of the squad to keep them at bay for 45 minutes. Morgan - 5 - Struggled with Jesus' and Silva's movement. He must've gotten dizzy trying to keep up in the leadup to their first goal. Maguire - 5 - Had our best chance of the game, but like the others, was up against it at the other end. No faulting the effort. Fuchs - 5 - Had a very tough time against Sterling who looks a different player to what he was last season. When he starts playing through balls like that, you know Pep and his coaches have done something to that kid. Fuchs did OK like the rest for 45 minutes. He's yet to have a proper good game this season and it was never going to come today. Mahrez - 5 - He tried and worked hard, but ultimately to no avail. He was closely marked and could rarely get the ball into dangerous positions before losing it or running out of space to do anything useful with it. Albrighton - 5 - Worked hard, but was left chasing shadows in this unfamiliar position. Says a lot when Puel doesn't use King or Amartey in the middle with Iborra and Ndidi. Iborra - 5 - Great through ball to Vardy that led to the controversial moment. Again, did OK, but he was never going to get close to their players. Ndidi - 6 - If anyone signalled we had a bit of bite left and a potential comeback would happen, it was him. He was good in the tackle, but again, it's his use of the ball where his limits lie. Kept going until the end. Gray - 5 - Faded into the background a bit with Man City running the show. Felt he did OK to last as long as he did. Another 90 minutes under his belt and here's hoping he can be back to his recent self against West Ham. Vardy - 5 - Trademark workmanlike performance, but his sharpness wasn't there. Caught offside twice in promising positions and didn't finish either chance anyway. Truth be told, he wasn't getting much of a sniff after the initial Kompany takeout. Subs: All Meh. Puel - 5 - He tried to set us up to stifle them, which worked in part. We probably deserved to hold on to 0-0 at HT, but they were ever so dominant in the second. Did go for it at the end with virtually 4 strikers on the pitch. At least he tried, but once more Nacho failed to give Puel much to think about. Hoping we can bounce back with a positive result against West Ham.
hackenbacker Posted 20 November 2017 Posted 20 November 2017 10's for anybody able to touch the ball within the required 90 minutes
Guest the fox Posted 20 November 2017 Posted 20 November 2017 i gave everyone a 6 with a non added grade to slim and shijni, man city were just that much better! there are no standout players (good or bad). they worked hard. puel a 7. same as the ref and i gave man city an 8 (i don't thiink they are as good as people are saying on here, i still got man united winning the league)
FOXYTALK Posted 20 November 2017 Posted 20 November 2017 Kasper MOTM for me. Made the scoreline look flattering to us. Fuchs and Simpson poor but considering their opposition was probably to be expected. Fustration the main word every time we got the ball we couldn't pass it more than twice and create no chances. Kompany deserved red card bug decision could have affected the game. But take nothing away from Man City they are without doubt a class above.

He had one big decision to make and he bottled it. Yes they were better than us in almost every department, but 10 v 11 for almost the whole game and it changes the whole game. I can't see beyond a 1 for a ref that makes a poor decision that good change the game. Man City are as good as it gets, the way they calmly break down even the most stubborn rear guard is breathtaking. I gave them a 10, no way do United catch them this season.

Such a crucial decision that it rendered the rest of the match something of a farce. I gave him a 4, but on reflection it should have been a 1.

Unfortunately it's like an operation that went well except that the patient died.
shen Posted 21 November 2017 Posted 21 November 2017 It's bias that causes our fans to give the ref a 1. Like the fox says, it wasn't a clear cut red, both sides can be argued. People will argue that because it's Vardy who is known as a fast player, it would eventually have become a clear cut chance. But had it been Zlatan who was tackled and not Vardy, you'd have people claim Stones would easily have closed the gap. The ref shouldn't judge on eventualities or probabilities, but on the facts and fact is Stones was in line, so you can argue the ref got it spot on with a yellow.

drofmor55 Posted 21 November 2017 Posted 21 November 2017 Would the ref have sent Kompany off if this had happened in the 70th minute say ? i think that there was a much bigger chance that he would ...It would take a very brave ref to do this after 2 minutes..human nature Remember Jack Taylor ,arguably the best ref that this country has produced awarding a penalty in the first minute of a World Cup final. Another arguement towards video technology..but we would have a lot less to talk about

Edit: In fact I'm sure I remember Morgan getting sent off in the first five mins for us in the Championship once.
drofmor55 Posted 21 November 2017 Posted 21 November 2017 Also remember Vinnie Jones committing GBH on Steve Mcmahon in the first minute of the Wimbledon v Liverpool FA Cup Final. " I wanted to send a message to the Liverpool team and i knew the ref would'nt send me off in the first minute of a Cup Final"
Sunbury Fox Posted 21 November 2017 Posted 21 November 2017 Absolutely staggered that some people are saying the ref was okay. I'm sorry but it was clearly a red for Kompany, as they said on MoTD. Then there was the failure to even book Delph for an awful lunge on Albrighton. And in marking the ref I also consider the performance of his assistants. And without doubt the assistant on the West Stand side was beyond awful, culminating in him failing to flag for a free kick when Ferdandinho picked up the ball mistakenly thinking he'd been fouled. A 1 for me.

A 1 for me. It was not 'clearly' a red as already stated above. Both cases can be argued and have valid grounds. You're obviously going to focus on when decisions went against us, but the ref shouldn't be judged on how many decisions went our way.

Absolutely, he should be judged totally on how many decisions went Man City's way.....

I admire your willingness to take a balanced view but your opinion on the red card is clearly a minority view not only on here but also in the media.

I'm not saying it wasn't a red. Obviously I'm disappointed for us that it wasn't given. It just wasn't a 'clear' decision as many make out and I believe I've justified that. Even on the replay from the side you can see Stones is behind/in line, so the 'last defender'-rule is a bit ambiguous here. I recognise that it wasn't an easy decision for the refs to make.
