LCFC Support For Rainbow Laces Campaign

Leicester City Football Club will be joining the Premier League in showing its support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces Weekend, starting with Friday’s fixture with West Ham United.
 

Rainbow Laces

- Leicester City to support Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, starting against West Ham United on Friday 
- The Premier League have partnered with the charity to help improve the lives of the LGBT community and encourage participation in sport 
- Rainbow laces will be available to all players while there will be a host of central rainbow-themed activation 
- Stonewall are the UK’s leading charity for LGBT equality

With the aim of encouraging the lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) community to get involved at all levels of sport, as well as equality in football, the fixture will see a host of rainbow-themed activations in addition to the now-familiar laces.

Football is an inclusive sport and should be accessible to everyone. With the help of Stonewall, City will support the message that the LGBT community are welcome at all levels of sport and that all forms of discrimination will not be accepted.

Similarly to last year, the rainbow laces will be available to all players, as well as a rainbow captain’s armband. In addition, there will also be rainbow-coloured ball plinths, pitch flags, handshake board and substitution boards.

Pitchside LED boards and programme advertising will also support the initiative, while Leicester City will also display its support through its social media presence over the coming week – including fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley at King Power Stadium.

Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs said: “Everybody at Leicester City is proud to support all campaigns that promote equality and inclusion, both in sport and in wider society, so it is a privilege to promote those values once again with Stonewall.

"Football should be shared with everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from.”

The week of action comes after the Premier League announced a three-year partnership with Stonewall, who are the leading UK charity for LGBT equality.

They aim to improve the lives of that community both at home and abroad and will help the league and its clubs to address issues that remain in sport by putting equality and diversity at the forefront of their work in the community.

The campaign has gone from strength-to-strength with the backing of the Premier League, its clubs, players and governing bodies such as the EFL, FA and PGMOL - meaning thousands of people across the country will be lacing up with rainbow laces this weekend.

Premier League Executive Director Bill Bush said: "We all have a role to play in changing attitudes within sport. Last year's activity for the Rainbow Laces weekend helped to raise the profile of LGBT equality in our game, and we look to develop that further this year.

"We have seen an increase in the number of LGBT supporters' groups within the Premier League, as clubs continue to do great work in promoting inclusion and diversity amongst their supporters.

"We hope that through our work with Stonewall, we will see a shift in attitudes and public support for LGBT inclusion within our game."

As a Football Club, Leicester City do not tolerate homophobic or discriminatory language.

Just reading through the angry comments on the Premier League's official Facebook page where they changed their profile picture. The hate this fantastic movement generates from all corners of the world is laughable. How so many people can be offended by something like this in this day and age absolutely baffles me. Good on the Premier League, Football League, and all the clubs involved.

You should have seen our Facebook page last year. All the Algerian fans who follow us purely for Mahrez and Slimani were enraged, trolling every post with vomit emojis and telling Mahrez and Slimani to leave our disgusting club.

 

For some reason the club hasn't posted this news on Facebook yet. That's a shame as it was very funny to watch.

I’ve just seen the comments on the LCFC profile picture (which now has rainbow colours). I can’t believe how angry this makes people (admittedly most on the lcfc page appear to be from overseas).

It shouldn't be surprising, Algeria has Sharia law, homosexuality is illegal and the sentence for engaging in it can be upto three years in prison.

No not surprising, I know it is present in countries such as Algeria. But seeing comments like that does still shock.

 

It’s the amount of real hatred for people that is the most shocking, for something that doesn’t affect them.

A friend of mine was a victim of a particularly nasty homophobic attack in Manchester recently. Disgraceful.

 

Posters such as the above should be ejected from this forum permanently and asap - regardless of their native cultural norms.

Vardy scratching his right ear ahead of answering that question is interesting also...

Most of the premier league didn’t wear them. There was an interview on soccer am on Saturday morning and it was basically said that most players didn’t want to mess with their boots through superstition and sponsor agreements etc and the campaign was more than happy with that. 

 

Vardy scratching his ear is probably the least interesting thing to watch or discuss to be honest.
