That's Dragovic off then.

And it sure won't help us trying to recruit a quality CB when the word gets out that Morgan is always going to start ahead of you.

Having bothered to actually read the quote from Puel, it hardly seems like he’s definitely getting one. Puel basically said “we will see”, which hopefully means “no chance, but I can’t say that can I?’

I do not have an issue with him getting a contract as a backup, but nothing more. Someone to play the games where physicality is needed, and where we will not have the ball.

On the bench, I have no problem with. As starter hell, no. He's not the future.

Wes Morgan deserves a hell of a lot of credit for his performances for us. Probably the best defender in the Championship in the two and a bit years he was there with us, and despite struggling early doors he came good at this level too. A real warrior of a defender.

But for me now, and to be honest not just now, a while ago, I think it's time for him to be dropped. I don't think he's a particularly proactive defender. Like I said, a warrior of a defender, for last-ditch blocks he's excellent, but I think he ends up having to make them because of other flaws in his game - not sussing out situations sooner, not being good enough on the ball to play us into a better situation etc...

And it frustrates me that if rumours are to be believed, that Dragovic, who looks a very handy replacement for him, has cooled on the idea of joining us permanently because he lost his place to him.

I'd say I want Morgan in the squad still, but it's hard really to have someone as captain for them to no longer be it in the same dressing room, so I wonder if it's worth just selling him. I'd say there's a good chance someone in the bottom half of the PL comes in for him.

It'd be sad to see him go, but I think it might be necessary now, and we can't cling onto the past forever.

Its like Beckham and Rooney, two England talisman, who everyone knew were past their best but yet clung onto by managers until they had to take themselves out of the firing line. No one can do the humane thing and just say, its time.

You can never knock what Wes has done for the club but its simply a case of moving forwards. The premier league win has almost become the elephant in the room. Its the thing we refer to when discussing tactics, its the thing we talk about when discussing players, and its what we cling to in the vain hope, perhaps unrealistically, of measuring what we can potentially achieve.

As brilliant as the title was and id never ever swap that, i dont think we are going to move forward until we wipe the slate clean, find a new identity that looks FORWARDS and not constantly backwards at managers and players, and unfortunately Wes falls into that category.

Puel came to us with a reputation of bringing on the young players, so why would he be hinting that the old man of the squad may get a new contract?

It also makes no sense when he constantly plays Morgan when there is a better, younger international sitting on the bench,

Vardy is not captain material IMO. You need a decent relationship with the referee or be an intimidating character. Vardy is neither of these.

We’ve managed like that for the last how many years?  Morgan the Mute

I was very critical after Saturday - and I still am. I can't help but feel the club aren't moving on.

We've conceded 45 goals in 32 games. That's over a goal a game, not far off 1.5 goals per game. On our last run of games, we've conceded goals to Stoke and WBA (who are in bottom 5 for goals scored). We generally have to score 2 to win most games. That suggests to me there's a problem.

Now if we look at Dragovic's appearances for Leicester at centre back, league only. Cup includes 1 conceded to both Man City and Liverpool.

Huddersfield - 0

Chelsea - 0

Watford - 0

Everton - 2

Swansea - 1

Man City - 5

Take away that Man City game where Dragovic performed very well but they were freakishly good. You have a good record.

Basically our seasons woes can be pointed at the defence. When Morgan was out injured, there was better defensive form. You'd keep Maguire for development.

Can't fathom it. It's clear theres a problem but we appear to be taking too much 'respect' into account.

We need pace at the back, Dragovic provides that while also being comfortable on the ball. Simpson is also slow and looks afraid of the ball. I'd prefer Albrighton at right back for some games. Having good wing backs and centre backs who are good on the ball is so crucial now. Even Atletico Madrid push their fullbacks forward.

Morgan has been a good captain, hes a tough guy and rather inspirational but that is no longer enough to warrant him selection when there is a proven chap sat on the bench.
