It's obviously well known how close Filbert Street was to the current site, but this is one of those images which really puts it into perspective.

It actually makes me wonder how many times balls would have theoretically landed from one stadium in one match to another. Imagine if on the same spot/arc at the same time.

It’s amazed me how there’s not a park n ride service on match days or that I know off.

When the rugby World Cup games were on they had buses lining up at Birstall on a shuttle service, there were no more attending than a normal match day so why don’t those in charge get together to provide a service.

You've got Birstall, Enderby and Braunstone cross roads park n ride sites that could all accommodate it and places like County hall.

More so on Sunday games when local trains aren’t running and bus services from here anyway are non existent.

Soulsby doing all he can to rid the city of cars yet public transport is still the pits. Oh but cycle lanes are the answer, how could I forget that.

They're running from those places for Saturday games but it's full of shoppers. I can't imagine it will be that easy to get one back to the car, mind you I stopped going from Hinckley on the bus as the return bus either didn't turn up, was over subscribed or bad timings.

This is from a BBC article on 6 March 2002 (coincidentally almost 24 years to the day): "A range of fixtures and fittings from the Carling Stand will be removed and transferred to Leicester's new stadium." It's a real shame the club didn't incorporate any features from Filbert Street into the design of the new stadium. Middlesbrough, for example, relocated the original Ayresome Park entrance when they moved to the Riverside.

Ah don’t, it still makes me angry to this day how Filbert Street was disrespected when we moved to this soulless pile of crap. I managed to remove the back of my old seat in the kop and it now takes pride of place on a bookshelf in my living room. Kudos to former Foxestalk favourite @stez for stealthily undoing the bolts in the games leading up so I could grab it when the time came 😁

I'm one of those weirdos that hated filbert Street. The place was an embarrassment. Yes, occasionally the atmosphere could be good but I've had equally good atmospheres at the Walkers Bowl (no more KP for me)

The only thing that fbert street perfectly represented is what the club (and support) was then and has returned to now. Part top tier, part amateur shambles.

The walkers is shite. But miles better than filbert Street.

At least Filbert St had its own identity. Orange seats, blue seats, two tiers.

Nearly 25 years in and the ground has the same layout as it did on Day One. No increase in capacity, nothing new of any significance. Another wasted opportunity to give us something reasonably different and interesting.

Loved standing on the seats in Pen 1 trying not to fall off.

Having to get there early to reserve a seat.

The racist abuse from away fans and a few mongol " home" fans too ( Being a pak1).

Dodging the coins from the away fans...yeah it was magic!!.

BUT some of the games and atmosphere was different level, but we have also had that at New filbo street.

But Filbo didn't have the big screens and fancy floodlights. We would have never got to experience the cheeky montage featuring 'Madders' and 'Chilly'.

I also stole some turf which promptly died.

Then the club flogged some 'Filbert Street turf' in glass tubes (almost certainly NOT some random grass from the seed stores, DEFINITELY from the pitch...)

There he is!

Seeing as you are a horticulturalist, it was quite shocking how quickly that grass died 😉

I "borrowed" a bit of turf after the last league match.   Quite handy being with my good lady with a nice large handbag.  Not that she was impressed.

"You seriously want me to put that turf in my handbag?"

"I'll make it worth your while" was probably my feeble reply.   But she did take pity on me.

And so a nice piece of Filbert Street turf sat on my kitchen windowsill, and i lovingly cared for and watered it.    It did actually last a surprising long time.  About 18 months i think.

But like all things LCFC related, it did eventually wither away, and ultimately had to be put out its misery!

Wouldn't say that I hated Filbert St but didn't like what it had become by the end. Seats in the Kop and the Carling Stand killed it off. I wasn't sorry to leave the physical structure behind as I've kept the memories.

The new (not so new) place can be described as boring and generic in a physical sense. However, it holds the best memories of what has happened in it's short life span. Not many other stadiums have seen what ours has and I have affection for it now.

I wouldn't want to go back.
