Michael Appleton issues statement thanking Leicester City for the experience

Michael Appleton has thanked Leicester City for the opportunity to work in the Premier League.

The former assistant manager, who left the club recently after a reshuffle of his backroom team by manager Claude Puel, issued a statement through the League Managers’ Association and vowed to return to management better prepared after his spell at the King Power Stadium.

Appleton has been replaced by Jacques Bonnevay as Puel’s assistant at City .

“I would like to thank Leicester City’s owners and former manager Craig Shakespeare for the opportunity to work as the club’s assistant manager,” said Appleton, who left his role as manager of Oxford United to assist Shakespeare a year ago.

“I am an ambitious person, driven by a desire to succeed and I simply couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work in the Premier League, for a great club, and be able to test myself against the elite of English football.

“Craig’s departure, early in the season, gave me an unexpected spell as caretaker manager and our victories over Swansea City in the Premier League and Leeds United in the EFL Cup were a source of great pride to me.

“Whilst it is often disappointing to leave a role, I look back on my time at Leicester with satisfaction. The players were first-class from day one. They are talented, hard-working, true professionals and they were a pleasure to coach. I really enjoyed working with the dedicated staff and for the club’s superb supporters, who backed the team well throughout the season.

“It is no secret that I wish to return to management. I enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Oxford United, gaining promotion to League 1, building a team capable of challenging for promotion to the Championship and enjoying two trips to Wembley Stadium in the EFL Trophy. In saying that, my experience at Leicester has been rewarding in a different sense; refreshing my skills and continuing my coaching education.

“I have time now to reflect on the past year, go out and watch matches, study how my contemporaries operate, experience more media work and test myself across other facets of the modern game. I want to keep learning and improving, so I am completely ready for my next role.”

It tells it's own story the he never mentioned Puel. Sorry to see him go and good luck in your next position.

Clearly shows something went on behind closed doors given not even a single mention of the time working with him

It also proves that the owners have bought into Puels plans bigtime. Unless he has a total disaster of a start I think he's here for quite a while.
