Think he was at the end of his contract, iirc.

Edit: I'm wrong, sorry; according to Wiki he signed a three-year deal last year.

Probably received a big pay-off, lime Shakespeare did.

 

Like Chris Powell, he's highly-regarded English coach/former player and will do well for himself somewhere imo.

Seems like a nice guy, obviously some rumours that him and Puel didn't get on, and with the board seemingly throwing their weight behind Puel and letting him bring his own team in (always strange he didn't do that in the first place, tbh), Appleton was always going to be the odd man out.

 

Best of luck to him, hope he gets the #1 seat somewhere.

I think the last straw was the defeat to France yesterday. That was appleton on the sideline for Argentina wasn't it?

I never understood what he contributed and looking back to last season when Puel  needed support and the team needed direction you would see Puel or Stowell shouting instructions. Appleton sat with his arms crossed on many occasion hence I didn't get the support he got here, yes he had biceps, was English and a bit of a lad! But I think he will soon be forgotten.

He maybe helped slightly with the fine tuning of Puel's modest grasp on the English language with lots of gesticulating and sign language thrown in - and held the fort ok between Shakespeare and Puel but apart from the biceps I don't think he'll go down in LCFC folklore at any point! Will do a good job at wherever he goes next though, most obviously someone in the lower region of the Championship or anyone in League One....
