Cheap Car Insurance

Recommended Posts

So I’m gonna pick up a cheap 4x4 this week as a run around for up and down the gated roads where I live and something to chuck the bikes into for off-road days... probably an old Freelander van or something...

Now I’ve been on company cover and motorbike insurance for years now and so am out of touch with very cheap car insurance providers...

Anybody got any ideas for a bloke with over 10 years no claims and held a license for 20?

Slap your details into all of them and see which pops up the cheapest. Think some of them do best price guaranteed and what have you.

Lexham Insurance. Based in Norwich l think. I use them for my old Vespa. I was also a bit out of touch, but £100 a year fully comp seemed reasonable to me.

Direct Line, in my experience, consistently offer the most bizarrely expensive quotes. They don't appear on comparison websites and it's never been worth giving them my details.

I just took a policy out with Swinton (Aviva are the actual providers, I believe). £500 a year for my Audi TTS.

Search via Confused.com as they sometimes offer an exclusive discount for certain providers.

Always find Admiral tend to do the best quotes, or the companies that sound tiny, but are subsidiaries of the big corporations like Direct Line.

Incidentally Admiral jacked up our multicar renewal £160 with the auto renew price. After a grumpy call and various discounts I'm paying £6 less than currently. The whole renew price system is a joke.

What is this "cheap car insurance" you speak of?

Insurance is so individual specific you just cannot predict how insurers will look at you.  I've never had a positive response from Direct Line or Aviva but I've known loads that have

Slightly off topic but my breakdown cover was due for renewal.

Paid £45 last year, for pretty decent cover.

New price was £29.

Prices usually go up rather than down. Quids in!
