At the time, such an association was not at all fatuous: they shared that low centre of gravity and ability to burst devastatingly between defenders, as Joachim showed the previous season with a famous goal against Portsmouth in the play-offs. He had scored a very different but even better one against Barnsley in the FA Cup. High praise indeed but he was that good IMO.

I'm not sure our 94 squad which lost 2 play off finals before winning one and getting relegated and had Ian Olmondroyd in it! deserves the "class of" nickname. Thought police. Piss off

Cottee and Gilchrist sealed a routine win👍 Anyone remember Jimmy Wallis? Imagine your legacy being the first player to score in top 5 divisions. Only to have your name misspelt when it eventually gets written about
Aus Fox Posted 17 October 2019 Posted 17 October 2019 I remember that season and I cant for the life of me remember Jimmy Willis scoring for us in the Premier League. Im awaiting someone to come on and mention a pretty crucial goal or a worldly I shouldn’t forget.

Decent enough strike to warrant its own You Tube excerpt.

Like most others I thought he was going to be a world beater when he burst on to the scene, Little protected him too much by not always starting him in the early days, I was gutted when he left us to join Villa as he was still in his early 20’s but we did have a young lad called Heskey coming through to make up for it! My favourite memory of Joachim will be his goal at Barnsley, still enjoy watching it on YouTube, not only because it was a tremendous strike but also our fans going mental behind the goal, I was fortunate enough to be there and although it ended in disappointment that game I’ll always remember.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 17 October 2019 Posted 17 October 2019 Derby were the big cheeses at that time (well in the midlands) spending big and putting together a decent side whereas we put out a rag tag team that day, partly due to injuries which made beating them all the better! Totally forgot Mark Blake played that day.
