We've scored 41 goals this season you have to look up to 10th placed Fulham to find a team with more, sure they've dried up lately but that's mainly down to our rock bottom confidence when we get chances.

There's only 2 teams that have conceded more Notts F and Bournemouth, defending is pretty much the sole source of our dire situation.

And also having a goalkeeper who conceded 45 goals in 26 games

Our defensive weakness has been obvious but I would blame Rodgers's hopeless tactics rather than the players. Our defenders are not world class but properly set up can do a much better job than they have. If we had conceded fifteen goals less we would be above half way in the table. I would say to any club thinking Rodgers can be the answer. , just look closely at him defensively.

I think it's fair to say there's nota single reason why the defence is so bad.

Why do managers favour ten in the box when defending corners rather than leaving at least one out?  It doesn't make sense to me.  Is anyone aware of the theory/ evidence supporting this?

It was fantastic when Ranieri left three out of the box.  Smith seems to like to pack the box as did Rodgers.

I have always wondered that. Leave Daka, Vards, Barnes or someone like that out as they’re fairly useless in there.  It means that they would have to commit two of their players to defend it and takes a few out the box.

it was always my approach on Footy Man for years.

We had Morgan and huth who seemed to get their head on anything that was crossed in

I think it’s easier to leave men high up if you go man for man - when you have a mixture of zonal and man for man you don’t have enough spare to leave someone up

We can't judge Maresca till he starts, but judging by players we are linked with, it seems highly likely we are going to use the Man City blueprint of football. And that means you can expect to see one of my favourite type of goals in football being scored a lot - the cutback:

This series is well worth watching as I think we will see a lot of this play out. If Vardy stays I can see him bagging a ton because his movement is elite. You don't need pace, you just need to know where to move to and when!

You should start a new thread for Tactics with Maresca in the Championship
