Semi Final Voodoo

I’ve become slightly obsessed by our ability to win Semi Finals.

 

Thursday will mark just 2 months short of 28 years since we last lost a Semi Final. Craig Shakespears Sister was number 1, Football had just been invented 6 days earlier with the conception of the Premier League, and the first text message hadn't been sent.

 

Since losing to Forest 1-3 on aggregate in the 1992 Northern Area final of the Zenith Data Systems Cup, the 7th and final edition of the Full Members' Cup, football was officially born on August 15, 1992 which makes us undefeated forever in the history of semi-final cup competition:

 

2000 League Cup - Villa - Beat Tranmere in Final

1999 League Cup - Sunderland - Lost to Spuds in Final

1997 League Cup - Wimbledon - Beat Boro in FInal

 

Well let's say you don't believe football began in 1992, here is the rest of the SF history:

 

1982 FA Cup - Lost to Spurs

1974 FA Cup - Lost to Liverpool

1969 FA Cup - Beat WBA - Lost to Man City in Final

1965 League Cup - Beat Plymouth - Lost to Chelsea in Final

1964 League Cup - Beat West Ham - Beat Stoke in Final

1963 FA Cup - Beat Liverpool - Lost to Man U in Final

1961 FA Cup - Beat Sheff Utd - Lost to Spurs in Final

1949 FA Cup - Beat Portsmouth - Lost to Wolves in Final

 

People might think that none of this matters but for me the key takeaway here is that we've never lost a League Cup Semi. Up the Foxes. The real Hoodoo is the FA Cup.
