Oh it looks like we're going for the short stuff again. What happened to just bowling a tight line and frustrating the bat? Doesn't do much for the over rate either, which is really bad right now.

Very one dimensional tactic by Baz, leaked about 100 runs more than nessarcy.

It looks like we abandoned bowler plans and just stuck to one type of plan. Poor.

Best kind of test for Stokes this, and Atkinson. Bowlers haven't been good enough, batters have come in and done nothing and captaincy has been poor.

It's had the feeling of a dead rubber from England.

Fair points. We haven't been good enough in all departments.

Seems like a side in transition, which England probably are.

I just wonder whether there's enough strength in depth. It's all well & good scoring runs for fun at county level, but Test level is a whole new ball game.

Gay looks decent & Crawley had to be dropped. Obviously Broad & Jimmy are virtually impossible to replace & we need a decent spinner.

It's early days l suppose.

I really like listening to Stuart Broad's commentary & insight. Seems like a nice fella too. Sky really have struck gold.

Agreed. Such recent experience helps with explaining and analysing the modern game.

Definitely. I find his analysis & reasoning absolutely fascinating. Brilliant stuff.

I actually think that unless NZ bat until tea, the draw remains out of the equation. With the way England score and given the amount of time remaining (barring weather interruptions), if they're put on with a target of 500 off 135 overs or somesuch, they'll either make it (practically impossible), or be bowled out (practically certain).

I think it'll be get to 500 lead and declare.

Anyone just watched The Film Room with Phil Tufnell? A look back at the last Test v New Zealand in 1999. A match where England officially became the worst Test team in the world.

7 to 11 were Irani, Caddick, Mullally, Tufnell and Giddins. Incredible times.
