It seems like, as @Cardiff_Fox alluded to, that Rodgers was restricted in terms of giving Barnes, Ricardo and Castagne a starting place. I'd imagine he'd want at least two of those to start. Throw in the fact that up to four players who would play in the ten role were unavailable (Maddison, Praet, Perez and Iheanacho), meaning we had to move Tielemans out of position, affected our attack, which looked like it would either be brilliant or blunt and turned out to be blunt.

I think he should've made changes at half-time with the score at 0-0 and we still had an element of control. Even still, we had enough time to score twice.

We didn't. I don't think there was anything sinister or complacent about it- he picked a team that was weakened and restricted and didn't play well. Rodgers took the responsibility.

Excellent summation so it means I don't have to read the previous 23 pages - I really CBA anyway.

The league is far more important but it would have been nice to meet Rangers...........

...I always wonder what else you would expect the manager to say, I remember that Ranieri constantly held his hand up!!!

It doesn't look good throwing your players under the bus and a diplomatic move to take the blame.

The surging run from Soyuncu in the first minute was as good as it got.

For the first seven minutes it looked like this team were up for it but then it went flat. Maybe Rodgers is continually compromised by where to play his hand - League position, Cup, EL - I wouldn't relish continually having to make these choices, given the amount of crocked players unavailable.

However, I would always put out the strongest team available - especially when there is a prize with so much cachet available. Barnes doesn't appear tired or demotivated and he's young enough to cast off weariness between games. Castagne and Pereira are coming back off a period of extended 'rest' - neither two should be suffering yet from accumulated exertions. I think Rodgers persauded himself that Slavia were as much nonentities as the media expected them to be. Even at the 70th minute Steve McManaman was stating that City could swing it their way - when it was obvious a kind of torpor had infected the team.

Tielemans was ineffective -  as was Vardy and Albrighton. Ünder was, again, making the wrong decisions in attack and being over safe when he was covering the defence. Maybe he's just trying too hard. Choudhury was ball-chasing and that made him late for the tackles he should have been making. Söyüncü looked somewhat bored - as if he thought we were going to be knocked out. Amartey is a utility player and works hard, but we can't expect him to be a creative player. Only Evans and N'Didi, of the outfield players, were performing to their usual high standards.

Castagne, Pereira and Barnes would have asked some serious questions of Slavia. As it was they weathered the early storm and grew in confidence.

Maybe it's something that Maddison brings to the side that's not strictly a footballing attribute - 'swagger'. Vardy has it. They enjoy putting one over an opponent - really enjoy it and opponnets hate it. I saw precious little enjoyment in our team on Thursday.

Nevertheless, teams with more resources have found themselves failing to capitalise when competing on multiple fronts - Man City for one.

Let's hope they get over this hurdle with their confidence only slightly dented. The only plus, as has been commented on by others on the forum, is that the two games a week with its concomitant excursions and physical and mental enervation is now over.

....we have seen this condition before, as if the whole team becomes infected!!!

It has to come from somewhere, it is not down to what Madders and Vardy brings, as we have sleep walked in games with them in it. I put in down to confused instructions and a lack of belief in how to overcome what was in front of them.

No it’s definitely crossed my mind Nick.
And it would make sense.
If, as many on here have suggested, it was a ‘blessing in disguise’ (I don’t agree by the way, I see it as a big chance thrown away), it would actually make sense to lose the game and by definition, not be too bothered?

Insane.

It looks like you were right Nick

Yesterday’s game indicates that we didn’t ‘not try’ against Slavia. We just weren’t good enough

Reliably informed that both clubs have spoken about Sima - or at the very least, we've asked the question of Slavia

I thought he was gash over the 2 legs apart from the goal (which was entirely preventable on our part). Still, at 19, there is plenty of scope for improvement.

Is this the lad that SPrague have slapped a £50m price tag on? I was expecting something a lot better.
