Don't touch WBAC. I'll HPI it for you if you want to PM me with reg, mileage and service history. That'll give CAP live prices.

If they're offering that much, you could probably trade in for 19k?

Phillip Schofield is a lying bastard lol

For years I’ve told people not to go anywhere near WBAC, but…I just sold my car to WBAC. They’re paying mad cheddar at the moment. Paid me more than selling to the main dealer direct.

Motorway is offering good money

I was using Motorway initially. They gave me a massive estimate. Your car is then put on a daily sale, which is sent out to dealers. The best offer I got was like £2k less than their estimate! I was far better off with WBAC, by £1200 or so.

Recap and Update on the davieG car saga

It all started when after reversing my car, after sitting all night just a short distance and loading the rear it wouldn't start all I could get was a clicking sound and a growl. But weirdly the radio came on, we rarely if ever use the radio and the volume is always down at zero.

Called Green Flag, they said the battery was flat but seemed to be charging ok

A few days later after driving 6 miles, reversing in and loading the rear it wouldn't start  and we got a repeat of the first incident Green Flag, radio, battery flatish but charging

Conclusion replace battery anyway, had it checked at Kwik fix - battery fine.

Asked Foxestalk for advice, did some checks inconclusive.

Decided to take it to a garage for checking - Result Alternator fine, battery only reading 11.4 when not running.

Told them to replace battery on the basis that it's 8 years old anyway.

Weirdly it's now indicating under-inflated tyres even though they're ok and the electronic display has changed and not giving the MPH or miles used. When i try to change screens it asks if I want to reset it, not sure if that means the whole thing or what. But never seen the current screen before in 8 years.

Let's hope at least it doesn't let me down as my fear is that there's something wrong with the electrics/electronics that is discharging the battery when not in use.

Confused!!!

Apologies I did warn you it was saga.

Do a Google search for car diagnostics near to you, see who has the best contemporaneous reviews and then go to them. I did this recently in Chesterfield for a problem (admittedly more minor than yours) and not only was it sorted, I now have a cracking go-to garage for services MOTs etc.

It's really hard to get anyone at the moment but will keep any eye on it to see how it develops, hopefully with a bit more background of the current situation it'll help me relate the issues to an engineer.

With mine it was a duff sensor - it could well be something that simple.

Why does this happen when you reverse?

Something I asked of 3 different engineers involved none of whom thought it was relevant.

This. Albeit a late reply, WBAC are rip off merchants. Schofield has been paid to advertise so what does he care?

We took my wife's car to WBAC for a quick sale. Their online valuation suggested £3500. Took it to be assessed and then the  valuation was £2000 due to some minor paintwork damage, wheel trim scratches and a chip in the windscreen. The guy claimed it would take £1500 to make the car ready to go to auction.

Complete bollox. Never NEVER go to WBAC.

We sold the car privately on-line for £3500. Which is £500 more than we paid a friend for it.

That is strange.

The weirdest quirk I've come across on a car was the previous model of Vauxhall Insignia. If you put the heated rear window on, it completely knocked out the radio signal lol

I told our service guys and they said that's completely normal for that car!

I'm on my third Insignia and never had that issue with any of them.

I was going to tag you in it and ask if you'd experienced it!

This was a 16 plate petrol, drank fuel for fun.

Those newer models are so much nicer.

Geoff, you would probably be able to trade yours in for close what you paid for it last year, that's how mental things are right now lol

I had a similar problem with a car a few years back. Battery was checked and came back fine but when left for a length of time would be flat, couldn’t work out what the problem was. Then one day when driving along I noticed the radio button was stuck in, picked it until it popped out, problem solved.
