Ajax Treesdown Posted 20 November 2005 Share Posted 20 November 2005 but who WOULD want to come here I haven't even bothered looking, cause I know the tit will stay. Sounds crazy but i'd take Peter Reid, he was good once and surely still is (Cov exception) Least he has passion and will grab the players by the balls. Thracian Posted 20 November 2005 Share Posted 20 November 2005 Trouble is Williams has under performed under every manager MAs, DB, CL and in his Forest days, ability alone doesn't make you a professional footballer application is up there as probably the highest priority. Can't argue that Williams would be impossible for any sane manager to pick on his recent performances. It's just that I wonder if he's not got utterly frustrated with the gospel according to Craig, and MA/DB before that because all three seem to be moulded from the same dour rock. I listened to Leveins pre-match interview and had I been a midfielder I'd have been inclined to give him my shirt and say "you play midfield" cos I don't need an aimless runabout. It was clear that his plan was to miss out midfield and feed the giraffes. Whether he explained in the dressing room that the idea was for the midfield to feed off the scraps I don't know but the plan was doomed because the giraffes were too cumbersome and far too benign to cause panic. And, for the first 45 minutes we barely put three passes together anyway. As for our midfield - there wasn't a goalscorer among em. So, by steering the giraffes out of harm's way all goalthreat danger for Burnley disappeared. Williams probably felt he was better off out of it and I wonder if he's started to feel that generally. Whether he'd be any better with the likes of Craig Burley one can only guess. I honestly have no idea but he seems no use to us under the present regime, that's for sure. Michael Doyle Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 Absolutely NOT. There is no one better and I don't want to go back a season waiting for someone to find their feet. I look forward to the future and Levein is clearly part of it. Just look at what some of the doom sellers nearly did to MON. The funny thing is that he has never forgotten it either..............Don't push Levein the same way. It unnecessary. lush Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 Look, I'm not arguing with you. But coming back to your post, how do you know that Craig Levein has lost his belief? Has anyone of you ever personally talked to the guy? And what kind of identity are you talking about? If you mean the pride to play for the team, then I have to say, it's not just the problem with our team. Modern football buys and sells players like cattle on the market. Few players stay with the same team over a longer period. It's sad, but true. Nowadays, "Identity" is something that marketing specialists create to keep fans entertained. Then you search for success that has already passed by. I can also understand that dwelling in wonderful memories is a nice thing to do, because it proves that every team can be successful given the circumstances. The high points you mentionned were exceptions, though. Leicester has never been a really successful team on a permanent basis and has also been on the verge of relegation to today's Division One and Two a couple of times. And if City fans are really used to losing, then what's the big deal with this season's performance? I rather think City fans are really used to complaining. Maybe that's just your nature. I don't know. We were really successful on a regular basis under MON. Arnt you one of us then swisspiss?

The fans got on MON's back after 8/9 games or so, we've given Levein more than a year now. There is a difference. As for being nobody better, well is there anybody worse? Gené and Tonic Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 There are quite a few worse unemployed managers. But Burley is out there, a few managers from the lower leagues look quality. Even coaches at Prem clubs might be an option, it hasn't worked for Derby, but it's worked for Watford.
Thracian Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 Twelve months, inclusive of close season, is a decent period of time - certainly to see an improvement in the team's performance and style of play. Sadly, I don't think that simply signing a striker will be the answer. First we need two strikers, second we need a creative midfield player and third we need to return to Levein's previously sanctioned pressure football by playing people who can all contribute going forward. Even the above does not represent a huge challenge. It is all fairly easily achieveable. There is simply no evidence that Levein ever listens or gives one moment of thought to what the fans actually want. He has a reputation for arrogance, justified or otherwise, and seems only centred on what he wants - not what is good for the club. Certainly he seems to have continually ignored the most obvious deficiences in his team because they are not new. He may be looking to January but I reckon he's got less than a month to click into attacking mode and start giving the fans some proper football. As I've said it will only take another 10/12 per cent swing in the poll to really put pressure on. The solution is in his own hands but time IS running out. He needs to fix the faults and fix em quick.
Darth Fox Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 I don't have a problem with this thread either. This isn't the RSPCL (Royal Society For Provention Of Cruelty to Levein). People are entitled to there opinions and give us one good reason to defend the man. He's awful and makes Peter Taylor look good. Some of these signings are frankly embarrasing. Stop defending the man

I agree, we do need strikers etc but it's also the manner in which we play, CL's defensive playing strategy might have done well in the SPL but they won't hold in this division. A question must be asked can CL come out of his comfort zone (defensive play) and apply himself and his team in a more attack minded manner

Manwell Pablo Posted 21 November 2005 Share Posted 21 November 2005 No there isn't! It's pathetic! How is it?! Were 16th with 5 very hard games coming up and we could well be in the bottom 3, people have a right to be annoyed. It's well and good cutting the wage bill and using young players, but if your not going to do it properly and get results whats the point ? I dont want him out but if this carriers on I will and I think with each defeat peoples mind set change, so an update on peoples thinking is a informitive and needed. I take it your Ben Wigston from the your say page on Team Talk, if you are you have always been over optomstic, and seem to think Levein is the man. Serious question How far would the club have to sink before you called for his head. De Vries granted has shown himself to be a 15-20 goal striker in all comps, this is not a amazing feat it is mearly average and we need 25-30 goal strikers to challenge for the top 10!! as u say!! Would you rather have Micky's old, unfit and actually shit players that what we've got now?! The results will come! I was right about de Vries. He has actually managed to put the ball in the net and if we had a midfield that would create more for him, he would score more. Are you seriously saying that a team needs to have strikers that score 30 goals to finish in top 10!?!? No! You are wrong! You say, "How far would the club have to sink before you called for his head." We haven't dropped since he took charge! I am not the only one who likes Levein. You are talking as if i'm in the minority! Well, i'm not!
