I'm going to try to be supportive and not make crass jokes at an inappropriate moment.

My Dad is slowing down a bit mentally, and sometimes displays anxiety in situations he would never stress about before. It's hard watching him struggle, he was always highly competent and self sufficient.

I would imagine the footy is quite important to those fans who are suffering. I know music, dancing and singing can have a great impact, even when other parts of the memory are slipping away, indeed my step-grandfather would still sing strongly in church on Sunday's, when much of his short term memory was gone.

Very nice initiative, it deserves to do well, and kudos to all those who brought it together.

Please feel free to speak openly, I just wanted to try to reach as many people as possible who might love LCFC and want to come along when its not a busy match day etc!

This is a wonderful thing to do Rebecca and I hope all goes well. If the first event is fairly quiet don't be discouraged because I think it could grow. A few years ago I used to work in an Age UK dementia group. Some or most of the people wouldn't remember my name but would remember their times at Leicester City,  players names and goals scored. It could grow into something fantastic.

My Dad had vascular dementia. Going down the City was always a big part of his life and eventhough he couldn't remember what he'd done 5 minutes previous he would regail me with stories of the 1949 Cup final, Jonny Anderson being a guest at his wedding and holding me on his shoulders in Town Hall Square in '66 to welcome home our Gordon. The last match we went to together was the 2014 Championship trophy match and we walked across the pitch afterwards, 3 generations of us.

Football was the thing we had in common and our conversations always centred around the City. No matter how many fall outs we had (we had a few!) we always reunited around our common ground.

We lost him to Covid in January.

Hope the event is a huge success. Thanks for organising it, Rebecca. x

Hi everyone,

We are hosting our first ever Dementia friendly event next week at the Foxes Fanstore, aimed at anyone who is experiencing dementia & their carers. The shop will be closed for the event, allowing people to browse, connect with their club and enjoy a hot drink in the stands. The club historian will also be present.  I lost my father to dementia - so I know first hand how a connection/love of football can make people happy and bring back happy memories.

If you know of anyone who may be interested, or who would benefit then please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Rebecca

Someone very dear to me has vascular dementia. This really tugs at my heartstrings.

What a wonderful idea, @RebeccaLoiuse— it seems so simple but this will be an hour many children and grandchildren will get to spend with their loved ones and they will cherish that time for many years.
