Given that 3 years years on he still rates Perez, it doesn’t bode well for us getting a replacement for Vestergaard

We can continue with him and he somehow manages to pull it round. I’ve seen glimmers of hope recently but given Hamza won MOTM two weeks ago as a CB who’s then been dropped for that position in favour of Vestergaard last night, I don’t see how that’ll be possible. He can’t keep relying on injured players coming back in when more often than not, there’s almost an injury occurrence per week.

Perez has started just 1 of the last 12 league games where has been available.

He didn’t drop Hamza in favour of Vestergaard, they both played together against Watford, and both played centre back against Spurs although in a back 3 with Cags.

I'd say that due to injuries and availability our ability to make significant progress this season has been wrecked but it's understandable and with level heads we'd expect to carry on our previous progress once we can get anywhere near to fielding our strongest side. The negative is that someone like Tielemans may not have the patience to see out the current storm so rather than it being just a season long lull where we broke momentum due to understandable circumstances we'll also have his possible departure hindering us from picking up where we left off. That's my concern. Give Rodgers the opportunity to field Kasper, 2 of Ricardo, Castagne, Justin, 2 or 3 of Forfana, Evans and Soyuncu, then Ndidi, Tielemans, Madison, Barnes, Lookman and Vardy, a luxury he's never had, and we'd be top 8 fighting with Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham for 5th place. I just wonder if we'll ever see that line up :dunno:.

We have conceded 36 goals in 19 games, thats pretty much 2 goals a game – we need on average to score 3 to win a game  – with this defensive unit, i think being 10th with 2 games in hand is pretty remarkable, Leicester have never conceded this many goals in a premier league season at this point, and we've been relegated 4 times – pretty incredible!

Piss off with this crap, it’s been forward steps every single season he’s been here. A little bit of adversity and some of you melts lose all sense of reality.

The enemies of Chairman Rodgers shall perish.

Previous seasons have been fantastic, aside from the half season fall offs. But honestly I’m not sure how many leaps forward we’ve made this season.

Despite the result on Wednesday, I'd still say we're on a par with the likes of Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal etc on the whole. We've got some serious injury issues and squad management to sort out over the next 6 months, and if ever there was a time to seriously invest its this summer, but I've no doubt we could continue to challenge top 6 going forwards.

This season feels like a write-off and as a result we'll probably lose Youri at least, but the foundations for success are still there, and perhaps stronger than they've ever been.

Pros:

- Our main worry for years (replacing Vardy) has finally been addressed succesfully with Nacho/Daka both looking the part

- Loads of young local talent making an impact at this level - Barnes/KDH/Thomas all looking comfortable in the starting XI and more coming through the academy. All could realistically be here for years if we match their ambition. Can any other PL club claim to have as many youth players making as much of an impact as ours are?

- Key players returning from injuries in our weakest positions - JJ and Fofana in particular

- Some problem areas already being (partially) addressed - Lookman seems to be an upgrade on our winger options and fits in well with the squad, Soumare has had a slow start but shown glimpses that once settled he could add an extra option to cover Ndidi

Cons:

- Probably losing Youri. I think it's inevitable at this point.

- Evans is finished as a first-choice CB. I just cant foresee him having a consistent, injury-free spell, and chopping-and-changing the CB pairing all the time to accommodate him does no-one any favours. I hope he sticks around, but we need an Evans-style CB (like Tarkowski) to come in as first choice and use Evans as backup/cup games in future.

- Going to be difficult to convince the players we want to come if we don't have European football to entice them with

- Tactically, Rodgers has been a bit sketchy and it remains to be seen whether he can turn things around

- Vestergaard.

Do everything we can to secure European football next season (preferably win the ECL this season to get into the Europa League, fully), sell Youri, manage players VERY carefully over the rest of the season so no more injury setbacks, blood in a couple youngsters and invest properly in 3-4 good quality signings (Lookman, Tarkowski, CM, RW would be my priorities, plus a new contract for Amartey). Easier said than done of course, but with that I think we'll have every chance of competing for 5th/6th once again.

This is a generally balanced view.  Some may argue about incoming and outgoings. The only point I’d add is that we have just gone through two years of exceptional strain and turmoil caused by the pandemic. Our team the fans and football in general has done as well as could possibly be expected in the circumstances but there have been consequences physically mentally and financially. Sometimes you just have to give a bit of leniency and go easy on yourself and those around you. In particular our fantastic owners will have been hit harder than most in the pocket. Having a business reliant on airport trade must have hit them harder than most. For all they have given us in the last ten years I am quite happy to accept subdued transfer activity for example. I’m a bit surprised and chuffed that they are still forging ahead with the ground improvements. During the most difficult periods of the last two years, football and in particular our beloved club has been a shining light to help navigate our way through it.

Dan's back Sunday, him and Cags will play for the next month in the middle (injuries permitting) JJ will play left back.  Wes might be back at the end of Feb, Wilf back for the next league game after Forest.

You would hope that we will start reducing the number of goals we concede, giving us something more solid to build on.

Yeah, sorry lol

I don’t think it’s your fault pal. Could have had an interesting discussion and I think it’s a fair question.

Sadly the discussion has been dominated by rival factions:

- Rodgers out camp - he’s taking us to league one if we don’t get rid and stop the rot right now

- Everything is great camp - stop being a snowflake, we’ll be top 4 once Fofana is back

Sandwiched amongst all of that you’ve got a minority of nuanced views and interesting points which are lost in the shout louder extremes that are polarising the debate. It’s 2022 Britain perfectly illustrated in a single thread. Brexit. Vaccines. Rogers.
