Ric Flair Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Sigh. Do you know I actually enjoyed last night's game until I got on here and saw all the whinging. I don't know if I can be bothered with this forum stuff anymore, I just let it depress me too much. People seem to want Levein out no matter what happens on or off the pitch. No-one seems to be able to come up with a real alternative that would actually be better. Or any way of working out the financial situation that would arise from sacking one manager, picking up another, bringing in another 10 players etc. My support is permanently with Craig for the foreseeable future, but I don't know if I can be bothered to constantly have to restate my point of view after every game. To be fair, you've hit the nail on the head there. I feel exactly the same and I still have the deceny to recognise what Levein has done for this club. Before I get all the Levein Out brigade on my back I just want to explain a few things as I can see where you are coming from. The bottom line is at the minute we aren't good enough. I cannot offer any excuses as to why that is and I can understand why that would make a hell of alot of fans question the manager. My personal opinion on this and I might be the only one who thinks this and i'm not bothered if I am. Anyway a year ago when Levein came in I was crying out for a manager who would come in and clear out all of the 30+ year old players who Adams had signed, players who were way over the hill and in decline (Tiatto, Wilcox and unfortunately Dublin are still here) Levein did that and replaced them with the sort of players I could only dream about under Adams. These were younger players with potential to improve and although he has bought some crap players like all managers do i'm pleased with the core of players he's signed. He's also bought through Stearman, Sheehan, Wesolowski and briefly Ashley Chambers and will look to do the same with other youngsters if they are good enough. What Levein has done was all I asked for from a new manager a year ago, I even said I wasn't bothered about results too much as I was sick and tired of the way the club was being run. I hold my hands up and say that there have been a few occasions when i've gone mad with Levein on team selections and the way we've played and conceded matches but i'm man enough to stand by what I said a year ago. I obviously can't go on like this forever but I do realise that we could be on the verge of a real mess (bigger than we've seen in recent years) if we get rid of the manager and the cost of bringing a new one in plus all the changing of the squad again could put us in a situation like Coventry or even worse Forest. The parachute payments cease to exist for us after this season so any money that we have now cannot be wasted if we piss about with another unknown manager and get it wrong again! It's a horrible scenario at the minute and I hope to god that Levein continues with his game plan and turns it around here. I'm not asking or that bothered about 'champagne attacking' football and I might be settling for second best here but i'm grateful for some of his ideas he's implemented here and i'd be extremely worried if Levein went. After the initial disappointment of the past 2 results i'm back in the right frame of mind to get behind Levein (support wise). I might be a fakkin mug, but the way Micky Adams made me feel last season I don't want to feel like that ever again. I've never been so disillusioned as a football fan as I was at the start of last season and to be honest we were alot more likely to wins games aswell back then so what does that say? Aslong as Levein picks players on merit and plays players in their correct position then i'll keep flying the Levein Flag. Saturday is a good chance to show the fans he means business, it's time he started producing the goods for us.
Nationwider Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Levein to stay. Can we really be arsed to get on the manager merry-go-round again? I'm with Louise and Ric - better the devil you know than the devil you don't. We all know we'll end up with John Gregory if he goes. It's going to happen one day, but we may as well prolong that unhappy event for as long as possible. One of my earlier memories of watching City was losing 1-3 to Blackburn in front of 8,100 odd at Filbo on a Saturday in January in 1991. And tickets were cheap then. And people have the nerve to complain about the attendances and the quality of football under CL. I'll be p1ssing away £50 to watch us at Leeds next weekend. Looking forward to it. I like watching City, even when they're crap. What's wrong with being crap?

Yep, I feel the same way Louise, these forums used to be a place to come to have an informed, balanced and casual discussion about City. Nowadays it seems to be overrun by reactionary pessimists who seem to have unrealistic expectations about what we were ever going to achieve this season, most of whom don't even go to the matches anyway so don't see the positive aspects of any game and don't see the periods of play where it's evident that things are consolidating within the team. Meh, whatever, I'll continue to buy my season ticket, through thick and thin you'll find me in the kop supporting our team.

The People's Hero Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Heaven forbid I should rock the boat then.
Nationwider Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Heaven forbid I should rock the boat then. Rock on, Tommy.
Dr The Singh Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 I would like to see Levien given more time!! I still doubt CL, and his ability to take the club forward for the fact that his decision making has been poor, and week after week more cracks are appearing, so much so that he has began to pick on players. I think CL is no miracle worker but one that he is learning the hard way, his tactics in the SPL are not working in this division and he has and will slowly realise that. The issue is one of patience, there is no guarantee that even after 2 years from now that he will succeed, dwindling attendances and poor performances continue, the fans and board will have no real choice. It's in CL's own hands, he needs to make us believe that he is the one!!!
BenFilbert Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Two polls about the same topic in a matter of days... I think you're panicking. Aren't you exaggerating a little with this? I voted "No" again if you want to know... Judge Craig Levein at the end of this season. I completely agree. Levein will NOT be going and i am happy with that. We played some good football against Watford, a team who are right near the top of the table. Yes, they were down to 10 men but we thrashed them. We just couldn't finish it off. Brilliant play from Smith, Joey.. in fact the whole midfield did really well. The only problems i have at the moment are that we don't want to shoot! SHOOT! If you don't shoot you don't score. Sylla did well but was still showing a bit of laziness again. The front 2 did well. Maybury was our worst player. Smith was our best player. I'm not saying anything else on this matter.

That is the BEST POST EVER! I want to say that i 100% agree with you. I've had the same feelings about this forum. I do let it depress me. The footy doesn't depress me. We played entertaining footy, good footy, we showed skill, we scored 2 (and conceded 2!). It was an entertaining match and in my opinion, it had a lot of positives for the future. Elvis showed us he can play football after all. Kisnorbo improved. After him playing really rubbish for 1st 15 minutes, de Vries was very good. Smith, Sylla, Elvis and even Stearman showed us brilliant skill. I am looking forward to the future with Craig Levein.

No he didn't No he Wasn't Elvis is still hasn't scored. We Should of won. Overall play was very good against a team high up though a draw isnt't that badder result. We have to go out like that against Sheff U.
BenFilbert Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 And for that I am very thankful. Childish, just like i said 2 days ago. You must have a sad pathetic life if you enjoy doing that. I'm rushing to say what i have to say, so i can actually get on with my life. I don't pick out something that somebody says, and you've picked out 7 words that i said and have to reply to it. Pathetic!

I am replying to something that was directed at me. I didn't direct what i said to him. It was just a general comment that he had to pick on. So no, i didn't do the same thing.

I give reasons and explain what i think. I think Kisnorbo played well and he improved. I think de Vries played well. After the first 15 mins he won all the headers but players weren't running on to it. He never gives the ball away to the opposition. He made good passes after holding the ball up out to Sylla etc. He did good in my opinion. No, Elvis didn't score. I didn't say he did, he played good football. To be fair on Elvis, he didn't really have a chance to score. He ran well, dribbled well, didn't really lose possession. I liked the performance and yes we do have to play that against Sheffield. It doesn't mean that i wasn't really angry with Rab and Maybury but after the match i think about it and think, that wasn't a bad result. It wasn't good, but with the performance i think it was a good day.

Can't really have a go at me can he!
