The baffling thing is,  the Recruitment Team have had ample time since the last window close to have a list of potentials for each position as long as your arm.  Now it could be we have missed 90% of these names due to issues well publicised.  But , surely there are a at least a couple of low risk options left out there?   Just DO NOT add more deadwood/flops to the mountain we have already.  Get Bowler in for starters.  Avoid anybody that is not going to improve us - its pointless.

Yet those same stats did work well for us with Kante/Vardy etc?

I get what you’re saying mate but if a player doesn’t currently press there is a very strong chance he won’t for us.

A left field comment but a couple of years back Barnes to Liverpool rumours we’re doing the rounds but his lack of pressing surely didn’t help his cause did it?

Every top side plays a high pressing style do they not?

The stats the club use are far more in depth, detailed and analytical than just a scout report that some person on a forum has just put up.

It's them forum users who I'm complaining about as they make an instant judgement based on green/red lines

For example let's just say Wout Faes seemingly has poor 'aerial duels' and won 1/6 in a recent game. People will look at that and think he's rubbish but you need to look at every duel he was in individually and various factors.

'Aerial duel' is when 2 people contest the ball in the air and if Wout faes won the header.

It does not show. A) where it is on the pitch, B) who actually jumped first C) if one made an effort, D) Opponent player ability and the list goes on and on.

More importantly Wout Faes could have lost 5 of them 6 duels but used his body correctly to put off the opponent player every time and although the Opponent player won the ball their header went out of play or to a Leicester player so its a Leicester ball recovery.

Has he lost out? His stats show 1/6?  But actually he's done his job and defended well.

That's why these scout reports forum users put on should be just laughed at.

In terms of your point on pressing then yes that's a different story but too many people are to quick to look at assists and goals of previous seasons and not other factors

I was delighted to sign Iborra, Praet, Slimani, and if I had a better memory could add dozens to this list.

It is a forum though so there’s bound to be discussion on new signings, and with the abundance of stats in the game, it’s no surprise to be underwhelmed by underwhelming stats

Of course! And a merit point!

Which is the only point I’m making really. Nobody knows.

We are shopping in the pants down bin. We’re not even trying to find the next Kante or Mahrez. We’re certainly circling the bowl and I wouldn’t be surprised if we get flushed.

What the actual Fuchs has happened to our scouting department?

Exactly this. Cannot fathom the apparent stupidity at play here. Have the recruitment team just sat with their thumbs up their arses for a year?  There are still good prospects out there. So far the two we are strongly linked with are, frankly, bang average at best. I’ll get behind them of course, but if WE know they are bang average why in the name of all that is holy are our well paid recruitment and scouting team even looking at them. Think I’m on the verge of shrugging and walking away this season - and that has never happened before. Just cannot be bothered with this BS amateur hour circus at the moment.

To be fair, I think part of the general unease about signings at the moment is down to the failings of our transfer business while Rodgers has been at the helm.  If you look back at the 15-16 team, some of those signings did look underwhelming, but that recruiting was done under Pearson's management team and adhered to their model.  What a difference.

You can pretty much guarantee that anybody any club signs in the death throes of the window will invariably be cack. It screams no strategy or plan. We’re pissing in the wind hoping that it doesn’t land on our shoes at this point.

Exactly. There was a huge difference. An actual model to adhere to which seemed to rate character highly. We also took chances on unproven lower league players. Now we’re just shopping in the ‘bargain’ pants down bin. We know where that leads.

Earlier in the window we were linked with Charles DeKeteleare, that was an exciting signing. Fofana when we first signed him was exciting. Tielemans was pure sauce.

This time last season the team had just come off a 5th place finish and an FA Cup triumph. We were buzzing for Europe and excited for the season ahead. This time round we are dead bottom of the table, have sold one of our best players, our iconic captain and GK hero has left and we've been linked with unexciting players. I don't think it's unfair to criticise reactions to potential signings this time round. The club is currently a mess, and we are scared for what might happen this season.

That I totally understand and really appreciate your thought process.

Gotta to be honest, I thought Slimani would be a brilliant signing for us. I didn’t know much about Iborra or Praet so couldn’t comment.

How wrong I was re Slimani. He was slow, looked overweight and, apart from a couple of really good performances, didn’t offer anything much at all.

I didn’t agree with the argument either that we weren’t playing to his strengths.
I just thought he wasn’t much good and at the time a VERY expensive flop

I have to agree it all seems very last minute, window shopping.

I ask again, what IS the recruitment strategy? Knowing we can’t offload the crap we have in the squad, (frankly because no-one else wants them), what’s the next step of the business plan re playing personnel?

It’s why I said earlier in a post that it just seems like amateur hour. People are paid good money to sort this stuff out and frankly I think a few of us posters on here could do a far better job. Going to Congerton at Atalanta is, frankly, bollox.

As for strategy, who knows. We can’t get rid of our deadwood because they are shite and nobody wants shite - except us apparently.

Now a supposed bud of £19 million for Tieleman’s. Clever bid actually, so doubt it’s Newcastle. Liverpool or Arsenal more likely. Anything less than £25 million I think we should just reject. We cannot hope to buy a player close to Youri for £19-£20 million.
