Actually thought it was decent at times today, but I still think we can do something different. Still samey samey.. football in a library, 30 years and you won **** all. even Luke Thomas he won more than you got an airing which slightly confused me lol

Volume wise ok today but we need something different.. although 1-0 to the championship was rather humorous..

I see we really reached into the creativity stakes there. When you compare I stood in a Harrogate away end recently, and they had a full tune against the manager to Only Fools & Horses.

Good end yesterday but really need some new songs. Majority of songs were the anti forest ones which wouldn't work in another game

A push for promotion (whether it materialises or not) and a squad full of new players which aren't burdened by negative history should help our songbook.

I think a real push needs to be to get songs started in pre-season for our players, updates to the ones that stay if needed, new songs for new players.

The biggest issue is we either don't have or don't seem to sing a lot of good songs for the club specifically. We don't have a very catchy version for what teams like Villa and pool have for Allez Allez Allez (and i'm not saying we should take it). For me, our best chant for repetition once it got going at aways was the Maddison one which we took from Ajax amongst other European teams. If we could convert it into a club chant it would take off given a push.

We simply need more club centric songs.

Too many are player/manager specific that are then lost after a season or two.

We’re also a nightmare for:

A) being unable to update a chant to a past tense (see ‘on Wednesday nights’ still being sung with “we’ll be in” rather than “we’ve been to”)

B) Creating chants tied to promotion or a manager which then go out of date (see Fatawu & Mavididi)

C) Not setting a chant up quite right for maximum effect (see ‘Vichai had a dream’ which should have ended “Premier League champions” and then wouldn’t constantly get mistaken for us telling clubs who have been champions of England in 1940-whatever that they haven’t been - we could still be singing “Premier League champions, you’ll never sing that” to about 95% of the Football League)

Didn’t the Wednesday night one change during the season we were in it anyway? So some fans were singing different lines to others.

Personally I think once a song has got off the ground it shouldn’t be altered due to the above, but last line of Vichai had a dream is poor I think.

I remember the MC at half time at Huddersfield commenting on it thinking we were singing it to them, he then mentioned they’d won the league 3 times which they had about a century ago but only because he misheard us singing it.

Hats off to those who try and come up with new songs, not something I’d try and do. The past decade we have had some great times but hardly any songs about them.

FA cup for example we won for the first time.

It's no coincidence at all to me that it was a better end given how slowly it sold - people going who actually wanted to be there rather than those going out of habit.

That's a very valid point.

For most away games where we get 3000 tickets, there are probably 1500 who just go every game, out of habit ... presumably  because they've got nothing else to do.     They don't seem to make any noise or encourage the team.   They're just going out of habit.

Good points 👍

we started off beginning of two years ago on Wednesday nights we’ll be in Ipswich, we’ll be in hull but half way through the championship season it got changed back to the European version of Porto and Brugge. Not sure why that was and nothing wrong with reverting back to Ipswich and hull now or whatever teams referring to the championship..

Same happened at big allocations Preston and Chelsea last season. When tickets get all the way to season ticket holders the atmospheres are always better, unsurprising since it’s fans who want to be there and haven’t experienced derby days as much. I do wonder though where these louder fans are on match days.

On a seperate note, wouldn’t you be gutted if you received a ban through the post because you sold a ticket to some plonker and they then decided to run on the pitch as they thought it was vardy who scored lol

I've said on numerous occasions that a club's good atmosphere is just as much related to "being on the up", as opposed to any inherent passion of the fanbase.   The best atmospheres are usually at a club that's doing well after years or mediocrity or total shite.  Hence why Forest and Cov have decent atmospheres at the moment.   And why I think our best atmospheres were early 80's, early 90's and mid 2010's ie good spells after being mediocre/crap for a few years.

Last night, Charlton Athletic were the perfect example of this.   Like every club, they have their share of fans who love them.   But on all the occasions I've seen Charlton home or away, the word "passionate" has never been one I would associate with them.

They've been pretty rubbish for the last decade, and have spent the last 5 seasons in the 3rd Division.  When they were in the Premier League 2000-7, they were running on near capacity crowds.  But 7/8 years ago they bottomed-out to average crowds of 11-12,000 ... well under half capacity.   So they got rid of all the "dead wood" and part-timers.

Now they're on the up, however, and it sounded like The Valley was absolutely rocking last night.  Passionate, noisy all game, went berserk at the goal, and a massive pitch invasion at the end.

Sing when you're winning then?

This is a great post as I often think the same

I remember post MON years seeing Reading on TV, thinking just how good it was seeing a vibrant fan base enjoying their first season in the PL especially as ours was on the wane then.

Funnily a friend of mine used to have season tickets at Charlton in their PL years... he now goes to Leicester!  Taking that special tourist feel round the country, PL chasers maybe!

The PL has a lot of deadwood following it for sure.

I watched highlights of Oldham v Halifax this week and what a fantastic atmosphere that night.  It put all PL clubs to shame.  I was actually jealous of them, something I'd never have thought I'd say

Thought it was good yesterday.

We still have a lot of support that need too much encouragement to get involved though. Even standing up for Vardy looked hard work for the majority of the east stand.

I'm hoping the reset brings the "cup fans" in who bring a bit more of a fresh energy.

The 2nd attempt was a bit pitiful. Like you say people couldn't even be arsed / embarrassed to stand up in honour of the best striker we've ever had.
