I don’t know, he seemed to be one of the only players who always gave it his all this year, pretty sure he played through injuries at times, and sure, sometimes he was crap, but it wasn’t for lack of effort, and that was probably recognized by the other players. Additionally, he seems like a rather likeable guy, unlike some of the others who  were more skilled, but couldn’t be arsed to give their best to the club this year. 
 

I don’t think it’s that unreasonable of a choice given the season we just witnessed.

Can't help but think every player received one vote and the other two Belgian lads voted for Castagne. He's been abysmal since his first game away at West Brom, a nothing player. 

I was thinking he’s been one of our worst players this season. Madders a lot more unpopular in the squad than we thought it seems

I think it was actually made to the government department that would have been tasked with implementing such a policy, if it has been real.

 

Only chance you have to get FOI stuff on football clubs under the current laws is if they come into contact with a public body.

The fact that Castagne won that shows how the players have got ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE or perception of reality. 

 

He's been running in mud all season, and has been completely shocking. Bloke gets beaten more than the sausage of a virgin who's most viewed website is the hub.

It's a bit of an insult I think. Didn't our goalkeeper Kevin Poole, who had let 80 goals get the same award years ago? And when given the trophy he dropped it!!

Castange winning the players' vote says a lot about what is going on behind the scenes

Couple of possible reasons why Castagne was chosen. 1) He played 500 more minutes than anyone else - so it was kind of a participation trophy/award. 2) The Belgian clique probably all voted for him (they seem pretty tight).

The player who is so dumb that he is always a yard behind the rest of the backline playing the strikers onside and to compound his mistake, attempts to make the recovery run whilst waving his arms around in the air akin to the wacky waving inflatable tube man to call for offside when the lino won't flag due to VAR.

If I was manager first thing I'd add to the fine list is "Sticking your arm in the air to claim offside - £10,000" 

 

It's ridiculous that professional players still do this when VAR has been in the PL for 4 years and they know they get the lines out to check. Just keep your arm down, run at full pace, defend properly and play to the whistle!
