Against my better judgement chose the bus today

Going there the bus was 15 mins late then we had 2 overtaking each other at every stop.. Got in as the Last Post was being played.

Coming home was awful. Rushed to West Bridge got there at 5.20, electronic sign indicated bus due at 5.25, never turned up.

Then it indicated 5.40 never turned up. There was quite a crowd now. Next one due at 5.55 turned up but was a single decker and sailed straight past - full up. The crowd thinned out as people had resorted to ordering taxis.

Next indication 6.10 bus finally arrived but again a single decker, manage to get on but was packed out , over loaded I suspect but nobody cared. Stood next to someone with a hacking cough in front of me and someone with a hand full of tissues behind me. Finally got home at 7.

My son meanwhile had left in a hurry to get the train to Narborough, I texted him to say I was still waiting for a bus to which he replied he’d just missed his train, saw it pulling out of the station and was on a bus in South Wigston saying he didn’t know how he was going to get to Narborough, I presume further trains were too late or non-existent not heard from him since, probably still walking home 😉

...doesn't the #50 go to Narborough, just a walk into the city centre to the bus station, a 10-minute walk would have done it!!!

I think so as it passes my West Bridge stop but like mine and a few others it never came by whilst I was waiting for mine. I doubt my son knows anyway as he usually drives.

Happy to buy him something from a burger van and the concourse if he wants it. Is it easy to get served at half time or is it a nightmare like most places?

Honestly...  I'm an armchair fan these days; but the meat pie is a rite of passage.

Can anyone else help here?

How quickly can you get into the stadium, is it fairly quick or does it take ages like some do?

Suppose it depends if the away coaches have arrived. They drop off straight outside the ground so if you get there fairly early you will have time to have a walk around, maybe visiting the Vichai rememberence garden, and keep an eye out to see how busy the turnstyles start to get. The coaches collect straight outside after the match so it can get very congested around the area so just stick together and all will be fine.

There's decent parking on Freeman's Common industrial estate, it tends to fill up completely about half an hour before kick off.

Most parking is around £5, and it's a 10 minute walk to the ground from there.

Thinking I'll try parking at Freeman's. Looks a decent price and relatively close by. Guessing from the above that I don't need to book in advance and can just turn up early on the day.

no, just pay on the gate around there, usually a good number of places to park there too

Apparently there's roadworks near Freeman's that are an issue for parking near Freeman's according to a guy at work. Is that right or nonsense?

Don't park on the industrial estate. It'll take you a minimum of an hour to get out, that's if you're lucky.

If you want easy affordable parking that is pretty much guaranteed, I would go to the Leicester Royal Infirmary multi-storey.  It’s about £5.  You pay at the machines on your return to the car park, input your car reg, and it lets you out of the barrier by reg plate recognition.  It can take a little while to get out as a lot of people are leaving at the same time.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary multi-storey is a 10 minute walk to the stadium.  You can take a 2 minute detour en route, and go to McDonald’s, next to Morrisons supermarket.  If your nephew is an average 12 year old, that’s probably where he’ll want to eat!

If you want to go to the stadium shop, I would arrive early, as it can get busy on match days.

If you google the Morrisons, McDonald’s, LRI and King Power stadium, you’ll see they’re all very close to each other.

When my kids were younger we used to hang around for autographs sometimes.  It usually took 1-2 hours before any players started to emerge, by which time we nearly had hypothermia.  I remember in the 15/16 season we waited till nearly 8pm for Jamie Vardy, but the kids were so happy it was worth it.  The place to wait is the players car park, which is pretty much next to the stadium shop entrance.  You’ll know it because of all the cars that cost more than a house!

I hope we win!!

Is there anywhere you'd recommend to park? Guy at work said near the hospital.

I usually park in the cinema car park at Freeman's Common, then have a pint in the Counting House and validate my parking in there.

To be honest, you could just walk in and type your reg in to the ipad without buying a drink!

Don't know how long you get (maybe someone else can help?), but never had a ticket.

Get out much quicker than in the industrial area.

Also, I’ve got a feeling the shop closes during the game, so wouldn’t be open for shopping afterwards.  I could be wrong though.  If I were you, I’d park at the LRI, get there early, go to the shop, go for lunch at McDonald’s, then head to the game. Morrisons also has a cafe.

We once parked at freemans industrial estate and it took 2 hours to get out!

I did it once, never again.

It was that bad, a group of lads got a football out of their boot and started having a kick about.

Before long, it was a full on 20 a side match lol

If you want to buy food in the concourse, you have to order it on a screen and pick it up from the counter.  You can order in advance for it to be ready at half time if you like, which saves queuing up.
You’re not allowed to take bottles of water in, but the strictness of this rule seems to vary with different turnstiles.  I’m always checked but friends in different parts of the ground never are.

...lots of ideas, my penny worth would be parking on the Fosse Road and walking down the Narborough Road on to Upperton Road to the statue of liberty roundabout. Once there it is 150 yards to the stadium, burger bars less than  a 100 yards from the ground on the way.

Once you walk back to your car, you are not that far from getting on to the motorway.

Surely its a bit much taking a hospital carpark space for hours at the football?

It’s a public car park, not just for hospital use.  And at the weekend it’s pretty empty because there are no outpatient clinics or routine procedures.  And there’s a large area for disabled parking, people with mobility problems, and carers, which is separate from the multi-storey.
