West Ham United in transfer tussle to sign Ibrahim Maza

West Ham United will reportedly compete with several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs for 17-year-old Hertha BSC sensation Ibrahim Maza.

According to a report by Bild, as relayed by Sport Witness, Ibrahim Maza is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Several other Premier League clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Leicester City, are also keen on signing the 17-year-old attacking sensation. In addition, the Hertha BSC wonderkid is a target for VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen.

Ibrahim Maza is one of the brightest young prospects in his homeland. A native of Berlin, he began his youth career at Reinickendorfer Füchse before joining Hertha BSC in 2016. The German whizkid made his first-team debut for Hertha BSC in April 2023 and has come leaps and bounds since then.

The 18-year-old has grown in stature at Hertha BSC this season, turning out 13 times while chipping in with one goal and two assists in the second division.

Meanwhile, Maza’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.

Bundesliga outfits like VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen are keen on signing the teenage prospect in the summer transfer window. In addition, the Hertha BSC wonderkid is a target for Premier League clubs like Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, Leicester City, and West Ham United.

West Ham United’s interest in Ibrahim Maza might be surprising at first glance. However, with Julen Lopetegui likely to arrive at the London Stadium as the long-term replacement for David Moyes, some policies might change. With Lucas Paqueta ready to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window, West Ham can do with a versatile attacker.

So, several attackers, including Steven Bergwijn, have emerged on West Ham United’s radar. However, Maza is also a viable target for the East London club. However, as iterated earlier, the Hammers face stiff competition for the 18-year-old German attacking sensation.

Meanwhile, Hertha BSC might be resigned to losing the teenage prospect in the summer transfer window. And it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat the competition to Ibrahim Maza’s signature.

Having seen nothing of the lad, not wanting to write him off, but less than 600 minutes of football in the Bundesliga 2 registering a solitary goal and a couple of assists, on paper doesn't look particularly exciting or impressive. Also positionally doesn't seem an ideal fit for Enzos system.

Sounds like our type of signing

Has really good defensive stats, I imagine Enzo would like him for the future with how he uses Ndidi

1 goals and 2 assists isn’t too bad either in 600 minutes at 18 for a mid table 2nd tier German side

This is the kind of player we should be signing and sending to Leuven (rather than use one of our few ESC permits on him)

Upon my research in to this lad @Dahnsouff I've stumbled across Fabian Reese again. He's had a superb season at Hertha!

Thought we might have missed the boat, but he is still only 26! Must be cheap as chips now he is in Bundesliga 2, surely….

Looking at Bundesliga 2 shows Tzolis on loan from Norwich is tearing it up, same position as Reese, useful backup at LW, sure.t Norwich might sell?

Championship title winners Leicester City are among the sides interested in signing Hertha Berlin midfielder Ibrahim Maza, as reported by BILD via Sport Witness.

The Foxes are getting ready for life back in the Premier League after a tremendous campaign in the second tier.

Leicester were backed as heavy favourites for promotion, and Enzo Maresca’s men lived up to that billing as they sailed ahead of the chasing pack in the early stages.

The club suffered a wobble in form, but they soon got back on track and secured the title ahead of Ipswich Town and Leeds United.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the German side in February, and he has since been catching the attention of teams around Europe.

Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart is said to be leading the race and is determined to sign the player this summer.

This report states that Stuttgart have even contacted Hertha Berlin about signing the player, with them initially quoted at €8 million with the price eventually rising to €10 million.

Leicester, Brighton, and West Ham are interested in Maza, but they are believed to be just some of the teams interested in England. The scouts from these clubs have been to watch the 18-year-old.
