Hopefully we can do a little better at home against Salford today than we did there earlier this season.

Bad night so far .

Bit of a bogey team ?

Port Vale the only team in the top 7 to win today.

They've really been the only one of the top teams that's been playing well  consistently in this final stretch.

Of course, now they'll lose all their remaining games lol

Well done Posh, not sure many expected that result. Birmingham must be gutted not to do a double.

Genuinely, the players and staff of Birmingham would’ve woken up today and probably thought, meh.

On the flip side.. a club the size of Peterborough, probably means a lot more than you think. All about levels.

I've often wondered, because I can see it happening eventually, what happens when a Premier League or Championship U21 side reaches the final?

Would their fans even be arsed about turning up to Wembley to watch the kids against a League One or Two side?

Absolutely not. For reasons other than not having anything else to do I did Charlton’ home and away games for it this year which included a home game against Chelsea’ U21 and I think Chelsea brought about 80 fans, and the average attendance throughout Charlton’ run was about 4000.

When my brother worked for Luton I remember him telling me they actually lost money partaking in it and the manager absolutely loathed it as the squad wasn’t big enough and the youth players weren’t good enough to have any meaningful impact in games..

Went off on a tangent but yeah to summarise, players, staff, and I would say the majority of fans have little to no interest in it whatsoever.

Putting academy teams in it has killed the competition, really. There's no real interest in it until the semis at best, and even the final itself is only really an opportunity for clubs who wouldn't normally make it to Wembley to have a chance to go.

Not sure what the answer is other than to get academies out of the competition and replace them with National League clubs.

Does any team care about any cup apart from the FA cup?  Of course when you get to the latter stages fans do.  But there's so much football and squads are so stretched I doubt many would be sad to see the likes of the EFL trophy go.

I think clubs like Peterborough do as a chance to play at Wembley and win but not the big clubs no .

"Smaller clubs" yeah. It's a nice chance to play at Wembley and win a trophy. A lot of these clubs are never going to win the FA Cup realistically. Although they can take inspiration from clubs such as Wigan.
